Wilson, NC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Barton Bulldogs in a 2-1 final score on Saturday afternoon.
The Warriors took 11 shots, two of which were on goal, in the loss to the Bulldogs.
Karla Gordon led the team with six shots. Gordon recorded the lone goal for Southern Wesleyan.
Fianna Steves picked up the assist.
Katelyn O'Neill played all ninety minutes in goal for the Warriors and collected five saves.

How It Happened
Barton pressured the Southern Wesleyan defense early on as Gianna Ferigne took a shot on the goal, but
Katelyn O'Neill saved the attack to keep the Bulldogs from taking the early lead. The Bulldogs continued to persevere as they scored the first goal of the afternoon. Southern Wesleyan challenged back as
Bella Hanzel broke away from the pack and took a shot, but her shot went wide, preventing the Warriors from tying the game up. The Warriors would not relent as
Karla Gordon weaved around the Bulldogs defense and put the ball into the back of the net for her fifth goal of the season and to tie the game up 1-1. Barton challenged again as Sarah Kaempfe took a shot on the goal, but
Katelyn O'Neill would not let the attack pay off as she dove in front of the net to save the ball. Gordon took several more attacks on the net for the Warriors, but the Bulldogs blocked her attacks from paying off. The Bulldogs continued to persist as Emely Pichardo passed the ball up to Lexis Goldberg who put it into the net to give Barton a 2-1 goal advantage at the half.
The Bulldogs remained on the offensive in the second half as Corinne Denham took a shot on the goal, but
Katelyn O'Neill stood strong in the net to prevent Barton from extending their lead. The Warriors countered with a shot by
Karla Gordon, but it sailed high over the net.
Bella Hanzel took a header shot on the goal, but Rachel Cox saved the attack. Southern Wesleyan continued to challenge the Barton defense as
Cayla Hughes took a shot, but her shot went wide to the left.
Natalie Thompson sent a rocket toward the net, but Rachel Cox jumped in front of it to keep Southern Wesleyan from tying the game up. Barton went on to win the game in a 2-1 final score.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will remain on the road on September 21 as they travel to Spartanburg, SC to take on the Converse Valkyries at 5 p.m. They will then return to Childs Field on September 24 to host the University of Mount Olive Trojans at 11 a.m. The Warriors will host the Lees-McRae Bobcats on September 28 and the Shaw Bears on October 1.
