How It Happened

Barton challenged early as Ingebrigt Braenden took a shot on the goal, but Wesley Bigbee collected the attack to prevent the Bulldogs from taking the early lead.  Southern Wesleyan countered right back as Hykeem Martin and Pedro Fonseca took shots on the goal, but the Bulldogs goalkeeper collected each attack.  Barton would not relent as Tommoso Migliarotti scored the first goal of the game to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 goal advantage eleven minutes into the game.  The Bulldogs continued to challenge as Tobias Nielsen drove the ball toward the net, but Wesley Bigbee dove on top of the ball to save the attack from reaching the back of the net.  A foul right outside the box allowed Hykeem Martin to take a free kick.  Martin drilled it toward the net, but Gunnarsson would not allow it to reach to prevent the Warriors from getting on the board.  The Bulldogs scored their second goal of the afternoon off a penalty kick goal by Blake Grove.

Southern Wesleyan fought back in the second half.  Pedro Fonseca stole the ball away from the Bulldogs on a pass to start off the second half.  Fonseca sent the ball into the lower corner of the goal out of the reach of Gunnarsson to put the Warriors down 2-1 to the Bulldogs.  However, Barton quickly countered as Eric Chavez sent the ball into the top corner of the net to extend their lead to 3-1.  The Warriors were not discouraged as Hykeem Martin broke away from the pack and sent the ball into the net to allow the Warriors to get back within one of the Bulldogs.  Eric Chavez scored his second goal of the afternoon to allow Barton to extend their lead to 4-2.  Southern Wesleyan continued to challenge as Pedro Fonseca took another shot on the goal, but Gunnarsson was able to thwart the attack.  Despite trailing by three, the Warriors continued to attack the net with shots by Martin, but each of his attacks were thwarted by the Bulldogs defense.  Barton went on to win the game in a 6-2 final score.
