Southern Wesleyan Falls to North Greenville in Conference Action

Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the North Greenville Crusaders on Tuesday evening in a 5-1 final score.

The Warriors recorded 15 shots and seven shots on goal in the loss to the Crusaders.  Feren Nunez led the team with five shots and two shots on goal.  He was followed by Pedro Fonseca with two shots on goal.  Fonseca scored the lone goal for the Warriors.  Wesley Bigbee played seventy-five minutes in goal while collecting eight saves.

How It Happened

Southern Wesleyan charged out of the gate as Tipton Wright drove the ball to the net, but the North Greenville defense thwarted his attack.  Reda Ikarrain challenged with a shot on the goal, but Wesley Bigbee saved the attack to keep the game scoreless.  Shots by Austin Snow and Ryan Rodriguez were also blocked by the Crusaders.  North Greenville continued to challenge as both Carlos Navarro and Renan Macuglia scored to give the Crusaders a 2-0 goal advantage.  The Crusaders would not relent with several more shots, but Wesley Bigbee and the Warriors' defense stayed strong on the back line.  Pedro Fonseca wove around the Crusaders' defense and sent the ball into the net to put the Warriors on the board.

The Crusaders upped the intensity in the second half, but shots by Reda Ikarrain and Renan Macuglia were blocked by Wesley Bigbee and Southern Wesleyan's back line to keep North Greenville from extending their line.  North Greenville's attacks paid off as Yessine Bessaies scored off a pass from Carlos Navarro to put them ahead 3-1.  The Warriors countered with a shot by Noah Koch, but the Crusaders' blocked the attack to keep Southern Wesleyan from cutting into their lead.  Southern Wesleyan continued to challenge North Greenville as Pedro Fonseca and Hykeem Martin each took shots on the goal, but the Crusaders' saved the attacks from paying off.  Despite late shots on goal by Feren Nunez, the Crusaders went on to win the game in a 5-1 final.


 
 
What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will next travel to Wilson, NC to take on the Barton Bulldogs on September 17 at 3:30 p.m.  They will remain on the road on September 21 as they travel to Spartanburg, SC to take on the Converse Valkyries at 7:30 p.m.  The Warriors will return to Childs Field on September 24 to host the University of Mount Olive Trojans at 1:30 p.m.
