How It Happened

The Hawks attacked seconds into the first half of the game as Lieke Van den Akker scored the first goal of the game to give them the early lead.  They continued to press, scoring a second goal off the foot of Christina Flores.  Southern Wesleyan countered as Bella Hanzel put the ball toward the net, but Kirsten Peterson saved the attack to keep the Warriors from cutting into their early lead.  The Hawks continued to attack the net, but the Warriors' defenders blocked their attacks to keep Chowan from extending their lead further.  Hayleigh Von Ins sent the ball toward the net from the half, but the Hawks continued to collect all of the Warriors' attacks.  Chowan took a 3-0 goal lead as Natasha Bailey scored with ten minutes left on the clock.  Southern Wesleyan continued to fight back though as Karla Gordon broke away from the pack and collected a pass from Bryanna Pickens to score the first goal of the afternoon for the Warriors.

The Hawks maintained their intensity in the second half as Regan Jackson took a shot, but her shot ricocheted off the post to keep Chowan from regaining their three goal advantage.  Chowan would not relent as Lieke Van den Akker scored her second her second goal of the afternoon to extend the Hawks lead to 4-1.  Van den Akker attacked again, but Katelyn O'Neill saved the attack from reaching the back of the net.  Madi Wurst took a free kick and sent it toward the goal in an attempt to cut into the Hawks lead, but Kirsten Peterson saved the attack.  Once again the Warriors attacked the net as Karla Gordon sent the ball toward the net, but the Hawks thwarted the attack once again.  Karla Gordon broke away from the pack and attacked the net again, but her shot went high to prevent the Warriors from cutting into the Hawks lead further.  The Hawks continued to press as Mayara Engel, Regan Jackson and Lieke Van den Akker each took shots, but Katelyn O'Neill and the Warriors defense remained strong on the back line to keep Chowan from extending their lead further.  However, the Hawks went on to win in a 5-1 final score.
