Fonseca Scores Lone Goal in Loss to Blue Hose

Clinton, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Presbyterian Blue Hose on Monday evening in a 7-1 final score.

The Warriors recorded seven shots with two shots on goal in the loss to the Blue Hose.  Both Hykeem Martin and Tipton Wright had three shots on goal.  The lone shots on goal came off the feet of Pedro Fonseca and Wright.  Fonseca scored the lone goal for the Warriors and Caden DeFronzo had the lone assist of the evening.  Southern Wesleyan collected 10 saves in the loss to Presbyterian.  Wesley Bigbee started in goal for the Warriors and recorded nine saves during the 75 minutes in goal.  Will Hughes came into goal in relief.

How It Happened

Presbyterian attacked early as Gerard Lopez took a shot, but Southern Wesleyan thwarted the attack and countered with their own attack off the foot of Hykeem MartinTipton Wright and Martin each took more shots, but the Blue Hose would not allow their attacks to pay off.  The Blue Hose challenged back as they scored back-to-back goals to take the early 2-0 advantage.  Presbyterian College maintained the pressure as they scored their third goal of the game six minutes off the foot of Chase Kennedy.  Tipton Wright attacked the net once again, but his shot was blocked to keep the Warriors from cutting into the Blue Hose lead.

The Warriors fought back in the second half as Tipton Wright drilled the ball toward the net, but Leo Stritter was able to stop the attack from paying off to keep Southern Wesleyan from cutting into their lead.  The Blue Hose maintained their pressure as David Citron and Carson Griffith each took shots, but Wesley Bigbee saved the attacks to keep Presbyterian from extending their lead further.  Presbyterian attacked once more as Griffith passed the ball over to Cheikh Atamao who scored the fourth goal for the Blue Hose.  Presbyterian scored again, but the Warriors continued to pressure the Blue Hose defense.  Caden DeFronzo passed the ball up to Pedro Fonseca.  Fonseca sent the ball into the bottom right side of the goal to put the Warriors back within four goals of the Blue Hose.  However, the Blue Hose went on to win the game in a 7-1 final score.
 

 
What's Next

The Warriors will return to Childs Field on September 1 at 7:00 pm as they host their home opener against the Brevard Tornados.  They will remain at home on September 7 as they open up Conference Carolinas action and host the King Tornado at 7:30 p.m.  Southern Wesleyan will then travel to Murfreesboro, NC on September 10 to take on the Chowan Hawks at 3:30 p.m.
