How It Happened
The Warriors charged out of the gate as a foul right outside the box allowed Southern Wesleyan to take a free kick.
Hykeem Martin sent the ball in toward the net and
Zachary Hurst headed it into the net to give the Warriors an early 1-0 goal lead. The Tornados countered with shots by Regan McDonald and Luis dos Santos, but the Warriors defense blocked the attacks. Southern Wesleyan continued to challenge Brevard as Martin,
Roye Maman and
Feren Nunez each took shots on the net, but Paul Bienefeld collected each attack to keep the Warriors from extending their lead further. Igor da Silva collected a pass by Estevan Berto and got the ball around the Southern Wesleyan defense to tie the game up at the half.
Southern Wesleyan maintained the pressure in the second half as both
Zachary Hurst and
Tipton Wright took shots on the net. However, Brevard thwarted their attacks. The Warriors would not relent as
Feren Nunez took a corner kick five minutes into the second half. Nunez sent the ball in an arc into the goal to score the second goal of the game for Southern Wesleyan. Brevard fought back as Estevan Berto and Nathan de Lima each took shots, but
Wesley Bigbee and the Warriors' defense kept the Tornados from cutting into the Warriors' lead. The Warriors went on to win the game in a 2-1 final.
