Southern Wesleyan Drops Road Contest to Barton

Wilson, NC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Barton Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon in a 15-3 final score.

The Warriors had six shots during the game, five were on goal.  Tabitha Beecher had four shots and three shots on goal.  Beecher went on to have two of the three goals for the Warriors.  She was joined in the scoring by Kelsey Hawkins with a solo goal.  Both Beecher and Jocelyn Cosgrove each had assists.

Southern Wesleyan collected eight draws with Tabitha Beecher leading the team with four.  The Warriors caused five turnovers.  Jairy Sandoval led the team with four of the 12 ground balls.  Kaeleigh McDaniel played all sixty seconds in goal and had 12 saves.

How It Happened

The Barton Bulldogs attacked early as they scored four minutes into the game on a goal by Samantha Serio.  The Warriors challenged back, but the Bulldogs thwarted their challenges.  Barton scored three more goals to take a 4-0 lead.

The Bulldogs continued to attack as they scored back-to-back goals to extend their lead to 7-0.  Southern Wesleyan countered as Tabitha Beecher broke away and put the ball into the cage to put them down 8-1.  However, Barton took a 9-1 goal lead at the half.

Southern Wesleyan challenged in the third quarter as both Tabitha Beecher and Jocelyn Cosgrove each attacked the cage.  However Oliva LaValle kept the Warriors from cutting into the Trojans lead.  Barton would not relent though as Kata Matuza and Samantha Serio scored to take an 11-1 goal lead.

Barton started the fourth quarter with a goal by Tamia Marshall put the ball in the cage to give them a 13-1 goal lead.  The Warriors attacked the cage once again as Tabitha Beecher passed the ball over to Kelsey Hawkins.  Hawkins put the ball into the back of the cage for Southern Wesleyan's second goal of the day.  They continued to fight back as Beecher scored once again.  The Bulldogs ended up winning the game in a 15-3 final.

 
 
What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will return to Childs Field on April 9 at 1 p.m.  They will then travel to Tigerville, SC on April 21 to take on the Crusaders of North Greenville at 5:30 p.m.
