Warriors Drop Tough Doubleheader Against Trojans

Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan challenged the Trojans, but dropped the double header in 12-3 and 13-2 final scores.

The Warriors put up seven hits in the first game of the day.  Faith Bowen doubled and Mary Sullivan hit a home run.  Sullivan led the team with two of the three RBIs.  Southern Wesleyan walked four times and both Addi Johnson and Emma Collins stole bases.  Faith Bowen started the first game of the afternoon and pitched six innings while striking out two batters.

Southern Wesleyan recorded eight hits in game two of the afternoon with Addi Johnson leading the team with two hits.  Delaney Byers doubled during the game.  The lone RBIs for the Warriors came off the bats of Johnson and Emmy CopelandLydia Clanton started game two with both Emma Collins and Faith Bowen coming in to pitch in relief.

How It Happened

Game One
The Trojans took the first runs of the game as they scored in the top of the first and third innings.

Southern Wesleyan countered in the bottom of the third inning.  With one out, Emma Collins walked.  Collins stole second before advancing to third on a throwing error.  With two outs, Addi Johnson singled up the middle to bring Collins in to score and put the Warriors down 2-1.

Mount Olive brought in more runs to score in the top of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

The Warriors were not discouraged as they attacked in the bottom of the sixth.  Faith Bowen led off the inning with a double to center field.  Mary Sullivan then drilled a home run over the center field wall to bring Bowen in and put the Warriors down 6-3.

The Trojans would not back down as they scored six more times to win the game 12-3.

 
Game Two
Mount Olive kicked off game two with a home run off the bat of Emanuele to bring two runs in to score.  They continued the pressure in the top of the second inning as they brought three more runs in to take a 5-0 run lead.  A second home run by Emanuele put them ahead by six.

Southern Wesleyan challenged in the bottom of the third inning.  With two outs, Delaney Byers doubled to right field and then came in to score on a single by Addi Johnson.

Trailing the Trojans by seven runs, Southern Wesleyan continued to chip away in the bottom of the fourth inning.  With one out, Faith Bowen singled through the right side.  Kaitlyn Stewart put down a single up the middle to advance Bowen to second.  With two outs, Emmy Copeland put the ball in play for a single to right field to bring Bowen across home plate. 

Mount Olive went on to win the game in a 13-2 final score.
 

 
What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will travel to Franklin Springs, GA on April 6 to take on the Emmanuel College Lions.  They will then return to Central, SC to host the UNC Pembroke Braves on April 8.  The Warriors will next travel to Spartanburg, SC to take on the Converse Valkyries.
