Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan split to the Erskine Flying Fleet on Tuesday afternoon. The Warriors dropped the first game 5-2 before claiming the 6-3 second game victory.
The Warriors collected seven hits in game one of the day with
Delaney Byers leading the team with two. Both Byers and
Lydia Clanton recorded doubles, and
Emmy Copeland had a triple during the first game of the afternoon. Junior
Emma Jo Wolfe hit her third home run of the season. Byers and Wolfe had the lone RBIs of the game.
Faith Bowen started on the mound and pitched 5.2 innings while striking out eight batters.
Southern Wesleyan had five hits in the second game with
Delaney Byers recording three.
Emma Jo Wolfe doubled and Byers cranked out two home runs. Byers had two of the four RBIs of the afternoon.
Emma Collins started game two on the mound for the Warriors and pitched a complete game while striking out seven batters.

How It Happened
Game One
Southern Wesleyan took the first run of the inning as
Emma Jo Wolfe drilled the ball down the left field line over the fence for her third home run of the season to give the Warriors an early 1-0 lead.
Erskine countered in the top of the third inning as a two-run home run off the bat of Patterson allowed the Flying Fleet to take a one run lead.
The Warriors fought back in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Emmy Copeland led off the inning as she hit a deep ball into right field to allow her to reach third base. With one out,
Delaney Byers singled up the middle to bring Copeland in to tie the game up 2-2.
Erskine did not back down as Rabon came in to pinch hit with Eagleman on second base. Rabon sent the ball over the center field wall to allow the Flying Fleet to regain the lead. The Flying Fleet scored once again in the top of the seventh inning to win game one in a 5-2 final score.
Game Two
The Warriors took the first run of the second game as
Delaney Byers sent the ball over the center field wall to give Southern Wesleyan a 1-0 run advantage.
The Southern Wesleyan and Erskine pitchers silenced the batters until the bottom of the fifth inning. With one out,
Delaney Byers homered for the second time of the game, but this time sending the ball over the left center field wall. The Warriors were not done as
Addi Johnson walked.
Emma Jo Wolfe then doubled on a ball hit to center field to bring Johnson in to score. Wolfe advanced on the throw and then came in to score on a passed ball to put the Warriors ahead 4-0.
The Flying Fleet would not go down quietly as they brought three runs in to score off a double and sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth inning.
Southern Wesleyan extended their lead in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Kaitlyn Stewart led off by reaching first on an error by the second baseman. With one out,
Haley Bertie reached on an error and then advanced to second base to put both runners in scoring position. A single to the pitcher by
Delaney Byers allowed Stewart to come in to score.
Addi Johnson then flew out to left field to allow Bertie to come in to score to give the Warriors a 6-3 run victory.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will wrap up the 2022 season on the road. They will travel to Franklin Springs, GA on April 14 to take on the Emmanuel Lions. The Warriors will then take on the King Tornado in Bristol, TN on April 20.
