Warriors Drop Early Lead to Mountain Lions

 Young Harris, GA – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Young Harris Mountain Lions on Tuesday afternoon in an 8-4 final score. 
 
The Warriors collected six hits with both Addi Johnson and Haley Bertie leading the team with two hits.  Both Johnson and Bertie had doubles and Emma Jo Wolfe hit a home run.  Wolfe led the team with two of the three RBIs.  Lydia Clanton walked and Bertie had the lone stolen base.
 
Faith Bowen started the game for the Warriors.  Bowen pitched four innings while striking out one batter.  Emma Collins came in to pitch in relief and struck out two batters.

How It Happened
 
The Mountain Lions took the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning, but the Warriors were not discouraged as they fought back in the top of the second.  Faith Bowen led off the top of the second with a single up the middle.  Emma Jo Wolfe then came to the plate and drilled a home run over the left field wall to put the Warriors ahead 2-1.  Mary Sullivan was then hit by a pitch and then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Emma CollinsHaley Bertie singled through the right side to allow Sullivan to advance to third.  Bertie then stole second base to put both runners in scoring position.  Delaney Byers was hit by a pitch to load up the bases and bring Addi Johnson up to the plate.  Johnson reached on an error by the shortstop that allowed both Sullivan and Bertie to score to extend the Warriors lead to 4-1.
 
Young Harris fought back as a double by Whaley allowed the Mountain Lions to bring two more runs in to cut the Warriors lead down to 4-3.  They went on to tie the game up on a double by Hannah Miller.
 
Young Harris went on to bring four runs in to score in the bottom of the sixth inning to win the game 8-4.
 
 
 
What's Next
 
The Warriors will open up Conference Carolinas action on March 19 as they travel to Tigerville, SC to take on the North Greenville Crusaders at 1 and 3 p.m.  They will host USC Salkahatchie in exhibition action on March 22 before continuing in Conference Carolinas play on March 25 as they host the Lees-McRae Bobcats.  Southern Wesleyan will then host the Francis Marion Patriots at noon and 2 p.m. on March 26.
