Warriors Split Doubleheader Against Screaming Eagles

Toccoa Falls, GA – Southern Wesleyan split the double header against the Toccoa Falls Screaming Eagles on Tuesday afternoon.  After dropping the first game 7-6, the Warriors won the second game 11-1.

The Warriors collected six hits in the first game with Josh Galloway leading the team with two hits.  Both Galloway and Josh Asbill homered in the game.  Galloway went on to record two of the four RBIs of the afternoon.  Southern Wesleyan walked once and DJ Ludwick stole two bases.  TJ McEvilly started game one for Southern Wesleyan and pitched four innings while striking out two.  Beau Shaw and Andrew Patterson came in to pitch in relief for the Warriors.

Southern Wesleyan had 13 hits in the second game of the day.  Zach O'Malley led the team with three hits on the day.  Both Will Pitts and Chance Fogel doubled with Fogel recording two doubles.  Zach O'Malley and Caden Cotton each homered.  O'Malley had three of the eleven RBI's of the day.  The Warriors walked eight times and both Fogel and DJ Ludwick stole bases.  Sean Sutay pitched a complete game for the Warriors and struck out seven batters while allowing only one run.

How It Happened

Game One
Southern Wesleyan took the first run of the game in the top of the first inning.  Will Pitts led off by reaching first on an error by the shortstop.  With Juan Garcia pinch running, Chance Fogel singled to right field to allow Garcia to advance to third base.  Fogel was picked off to bring Josh Galloway up to bat.  Galloway drilled a home run to left field to bring himself and Garcia in to score and give the Warriors a 2-0 run advantage.

The Warriors pushed further ahead as Josh Asbill hit a home run over the center field wall to give the Warriors a 3-0 run lead in the top of the second inning.

Toccoa Falls countered to bring one run in to score in the bottom of the second.  The Screaming Eagles continued to pressure the Warriors as a double by Allen allowed three more runs to come in to score to put them ahead 4-3.

The Warriors were not done as they attacked again in the top of the fifth.  DJ Ludwick led off with a single to shortstop and then stole second base to put him in scoring position.  Will Pitts walked and then Ludwick stole third to put runners at the corners with one out.  Josh Galloway was hit by a pitch to load up the bases.  An error by third base allowed Jordan Montgomery to reach first and brought Pitts and Ludwick home to allow Southern Wesleyan to take a 5-4 run lead.

Toccoa Falls tied it up in the bottom of the fifth, but Southern Wesleyan continued to press ahead in the top of the sixth inning.  Clifton Olmstead led off by being hit by a pitch to reach first.  An error by the pitcher allowed Josh Asbill to reach first and advance Olmstead to second.  DJ Ludwick grounded out to allow both Olmstead and Asbill to advance ninety feet.  A sacrifice fly out to right field by Will Pitts allowed Olmstead to come in and score to put the Warriors ahead 6-5.

The Screaming Eagles tied the game back up in the bottom of the sixth inning and then went on to win the game with a walk-off in the bottom of the seventh inning.
 
Game Two
Southern Wesleyan took the first runs of game two in the top of the first inning.  Chance Fogel reached first on a walk and then stole second.  With two outs and Fogel on second, Zach O'Malley homered to center field to give the Warriors a 2-0 run lead.

Toccoa Falls scored their lone run of the game in the bottom of the second inning.

The Warriors continued to push ahead in the top of the third out.  With one out, Will Pitts doubled to center field.  Chance Fogel doubled to center field to advance Jonny Middlebrooks, who was pinch running for Pitts, to third base.  With two runners in scoring position, Josh Galloway walked to load up the bases.  Zach O'Malley singled to second base to allow Middlebrooks to come in and score.  Caden Cotton reached on a fielder's choice that took O'Malley off the bases, but Fogel was allowed to score to give Southern Wesleyan a 4-1 run advantage.

Southern Wesleyan would not relent as they brought two more runs in to score in the top of the fifth.  With one out, Zach O'Malley singled to right center.  DJ Ludwick and Josh Asbill each walked to load up the bases.  Ty King Richards singled to center field to allow both Ludwick and O'Malley to score to put the Warriors ahead by five runs.

In the top of the seventh inning, the Warriors attacked the bases once again.  Caden Cotton led off the inning with a homer to left field.  DJ Ludwik then singled and stole second to put him in scoring position.  Josh Asbill flew out to left field to allow Ludwick to advance to third base.  Jonny Middlebrooks singled to first base to bring Ludwick in to score.  Clifton Olmstead walked to put two on with two outs.  Chance Fogel drilled a double to right center to allow both Olmstead and Middlebrooks to score.  A single by Josh Galloway brought Fogel in to give the Warriors the 11-1 victory over the Screaming Eagles.

 
 
What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will return to Dr. C Keith Connor Field on April 1 and 2 as they host the Francis Marion Patriots in Conference Carolinas action.  The Warriors will host the Anderson Trojans on April 5.  They will then travel to Charlotte, NC on April 8.
