How It Happened

Southern Wesleyan attacked the cage early as both Tabitha Beecher and Haylee Cureton took shots on the goal, but Ariel Johnson saved the attacks from paying off to keep the Warriors off the board.  However, the Warriors would not relent as Tabitha Beecher got around the defense to give Southern Wesleyan an early 1-0 lead.  The Hawks countered shortly afterwards as Brooke Woods-Pennell scored off a pass from Grace Taylor to tie the game up.  Southern Wesleyan were not discouraged as with just under ten minutes left in the first quarter Jocelyn Cosgrove sent the ball into the back of the cage to regain the Warriors advantage.  A foul in the eight meter allowed Beecher to score her second goal of the day and extend the Warriors lead to 3-1.  Beecher passed the ball over to Yael Echeverria who ducked around the Hawks' defense and put the ball into the cage.  Southern Wesleyan would not relent as Tabitha Beecher put the ball into the goal for the third time to give the Warriors a 5-1 goal lead.  Southern Wesleyan would not relent as Kelsey Hawkins attacked the net, but Ariel Johnson prevented Southern Wesleyan from extending their lead further.  Chowan countered, but Kaeleigh McDaniel and the Warriors defense stayed strong to keep the Hawks off the board.  Back-to-back goals by Haylee Cureton and Kelsey Hawkins put the Warriors ahead 7-1 at the end of the first quarter.

Southern Wesleyan struck quickly in the second quarter as a foul in the eight meter allowed Yael Echeverria to take a free position shot.  Echeverria's shot found the back of the cage to give the Warriors an 8-1 goal advantage.  Madison Brugger passed the ball over to Jocelyn Cosgrove who put the ball into the cage with just under twelve minutes on the clock to extend Southern Wesleyan's lead to eight.  Chowan countered with back-to-back goals by Morgan Grosse and Leia Cabradillia.  However, the Warriors continued to press ahead as Tabitha Beecher got the ball over to Echeverria to score and give the Warriors a 10-3 goal lead with just over six minutes left in the quarter.  Beecher drove to the net and scored once again for Southern Wesleyan.  Kelsey Hawkins collected a pass from Haylee Cureton and drilled it into the back of the cage to give the Warriors a nine goal lead at halftime.

Southern Wesleyan kicked off the third quarter with a free position goal by Jairy Sandoval to put the Warriors ahead by ten goals and make it a running clock.  Chowan countered on a goal by Morgan Grosse, but a quick goal out of the stick of Tabitha Beecher allowed the Warriors to regain their ten goal lead over the Hawks.  A foul in the eight meter allowed Haylee Cureton to take a free position attempt for Southern Wesleyan.  Cureton got the ball into the cage to put Southern Wesleyan ahead 15-4.  Leia Cabradillia scored her second goal of the afternoon to put the Hawks back within ten goals with just under five minutes left in the quarter.  The Hawks scored once more to put them down 15-6 at the end of the third quarter.
