How It Happened

Southern Wesleyan charged out of the gate as Tabitha Beecher scored just thirty seconds into the quarter to give the Warriors a 1-0 advantage.  Erskine quickly countered with a goal by Chandler Werner.  The Warriors would not relent as Tabitha Beecher scored twice more to put Southern Wesleyan back on top 3-1.  However, the Flying Fleet scored twice more out of the stick of Faith Flanagan to tie the game back up at three.  Kelsey Hawkins passed the ball over to Beecher with just over six minutes left in the quarter.  Beecher put the ball into the cage to put the Warriors back on top.  A foul in the eight meter allowed Hawkins to take a free position shot.  Hawkins scored to give Southern Wesleyan 5-3 goal lead.  Yael Echeverria collected a pass from Beecher to put them ahead by two.

The Warriors maintained the intensity in the second half as Jesse Soles got around the Flying Fleet defense and collected a pass from Jocelyn Cosgrove.  Soles put the ball into the back of the cage to regain the Warriors two goal advantage.  They continued to press ahead as Kelsey Hawkins scored her second goal of the day to put the Warriors on top 8-5.  The Flying Fleet put up attacks of their own as Faith Flanagan and Jenna Varner took shots on the goal, but Kaeleigh McDaniel and the Warrior defense would not let their attacks pay off.  With just over twelve minutes left in the quarter, Haylee Cureton took a pass from Hawkins and put it into the cage to put the Warriors ahead by four.  Southern Wesleyan continued to attack the cage as both Hawkins and Ansley Burroughs scored to give the Warriors an 11-5 goal advantage.  Once again Tabitha Beecher attacked the net to score, but a goal by Erskine's Aleiza Manns allowed the Flying Fleet to stay within six goals.  The Warriors pushed further ahead as goals by Kelsey Hawkins and Beecher allowed the Warriors to lead 15-7 at halftime.

The Warriors continued to push ahead in the start of the third quarter as Haylee Cureton scored to put them ahead by nine.  Southern Wesleyan attempted to take a ten point lead on shots by Yael Echeverria, Madison Brugger and Tricia Sands, but Madelyn Rogers and the Flying Fleet defense would not let them push further ahead.  The Warriors would not back down though as Haylee Cureton scored back-to-back goals to allow Southern Wesleyan to gain the advantage of the running clock.  A foul in the eight meter allowed Tabitha Beecher to take a free position shot, which she put into the back of the cage to put Southern Wesleyan ahead 19-7.

Freshman Mackenzie Moreau scored her career first goal to kick off the final quarter of the game and put the Warriors ahead by thirteen.  The Warriors would not back down on their attacks as Haylee Cureton scored her fifth goal of the game.  The Flying Fleet challenged right back as Aleiza Manns scored once again.  However, Tabitha Beecher continued to attack the net for the Warriors.  Beecher got past the Flying Fleet defense to score her ninth goal of the day.  Despite a late goal by Julia Richey of Erskine, the Warriors walked away with a 22-9 goal victory.
