Southern Wesleyan Falls to Anderson in Non-Conference Play

Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell in the double header against the Anderson Trojans on Tuesday afternoon in 6-4 and 5-1 final scores.
 
The Warriors had eight hits in the first game of the afternoon with Savannah Huff leading the team with three.  Huff and Emma Collins both doubled during the game and Emmy Copeland recorded the first triple of the season for Southern Wesleyan.  Both Huff and Delaney Byers recorded RBIs during the game.  Addie Johnson walked twice, and both Johnson and Emma Jo Wolfe stole bases.  Faith Bowen pitched all seven innings for the Warriors, striking out seven batters.
 
Southern Wesleyan had three hits in the second game of the day.  Delaney Byers hit the Warriors first home run of the season.  Emma Collins started the second game of the day for the Warriors.  Collins pitched seven innings while striking out three batters.

How It Happened
Game One
The Trojans attacked early as they brought two runs in to score in the top of the first inning.  However, the Warriors countered in the bottom of the inning.  With one out, Emma Collins doubled to left center and then advanced to third base on a ground out by Faith Bowen.  A single by Savannah Huff then brought Collins home allowing Southern Wesleyan to cut the Anderson lead down to 2-1.
 
Anderson kicked off the top of the third inning with a home run to put them ahead 3-1.  They continued to push ahead as they brought three more runs in to score during the inning.
 
With two out in the bottom of the third inning, Savannah Huff doubled to right center.  Lydia Clanton then reached on an error by the left fielder and advanced to second on the play.  Huff was able to come in to score to put the Warriors down 6-2.
 
Southern Wesleyan continued to chip away in the bottom of the sixth inning.  With one out, Addi Johnson walked and then advanced to second on a single by Emma Jo Wolfe.  Both Johnson and Wolfe stole bases to put both of them in scoring position with one out.  An error by the short stop allowed Emmy Copeland to reach and brought Johnson in to score.  Delaney Byers then singled to left field to advance Wolfe home.  However, the Warriors would fall 6-4 to the Trojans in game one.
 
 
Game Two
The Trojans plated runs in the second and third innings to take an early 4-0 lead over the Warriors.  With two out in the bottom of the third inning, Delaney Byers hit a home run over the left field wall to put the Warriors within three runs of the Trojans.  However, Anderson went on to win the game in a 5-1 final score.
 
 
 
What's Next
 
The Warriors will next travel to Newberry, SC on February 16 to take on the Newberry College Wolves at 2 and 4 p.m.  They will remain on the road on February 18 and 19 as they travel to play the USC Aiken Pacers and Columbia International Rams.  Southern Wesleyan will return to Varsity Field on February 23 to host the Catawba Indians.
