Warriors Drop Double Header to Wolves

Newberry, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Newberry Wolves on Wednesday afternoon in 5-1 and 9-0 final score.
 
The Warriors collected two hits in the game one loss.  Delaney Byers collected the first home run of the season for Southern Wesleyan to give her the lone run and RBI of the game.  Southern Wesleyan walked three times and left four runners on base.  Faith Bowen started game one and pitched six innings while striking out three batters.
 
Southern Wesleyan had one hit in the second game of the afternoon.  The lone hit came off the bat of Emma Collins.  Collins started game two on the mound and pitched 4.1 innings while striking out two batters.

How It Happened
 
Game One
The Newberry Wolves scored two runs in the first inning to take an early lead.  Southern Wesleyan countered in the top of the sixth as Delaney Byers homered to left center to cut the Newberry lead in half.  The Wolves pushed ahead to win the first game 5-1.
 
Game Two
Newberry shut the Warriors down in the second game of the day.  The Wolves went on to score runs in the first, second, fourth and fifth innings to win the game 9-0.
 
 
 
What's Next
 
Southern Wesleyan will remain on the road on February 18 as they travel to Aiken, SC to take on the UC Aiken Pacers.  They will then travel to Columbia, SC to take on the Columbia International Rams on February 19.  The Warriors will return to Varsity Field on February 23 as they host the Catawba Indians.
