Warriors Fall to Saints in Season Opener

Gaffney, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Limestone Saints in their season opener on Saturday in 9-1 and 14-1 final scores.
 
The Warriors had two hits in game one as both Lydia Clanton and Haley Bertie had singles.  Clanton had the lone RBI of the game.  Southern Wesleyan walked twice.  Faith Bowen started game one on the mound for the Warriors, striking out one batter over four innings.
 
Southern Wesleyan collected three hits in the second game of the afternoon.  Both Delaney Byers and Addi Johnson were hit by pitches.  The Warriors walked two times.  Lydia Clanton made her debut on the mound and pitched all four innings.

How It Happened
Game One
The Warriors struck first in the top of the first inning.  Delaney Byers led off with a walk and then advanced to second when Savannah Huff walked.  With two on and two out, Lydia Clanton singled to center field to bring Byers in and give Southern Wesleyan a 1-0 run lead.
 
Limestone countered in the bottom of the third to take a 2-1 run lead.  The Saints continued to push ahead as they plated seven runs in the bottom of the fourth to win the game.
 
 
Game Two
Limestone took the early lead as they brought in seven runs in the bottom of the second inning.  They continued to press ahead with runs in the third and fourth innings.
 
The Warriors put up their lone run in the top of the fifth inning.  Faith Bowen led off with a walk and then advanced to second on a single by Emma Jo WolfeMary Sullivan hit into a fielder's choice that took Wolfe off the bases, but advanced Bowen to third.  A passed ball allowed Bowen to come and score.  The Warriors fell to the Saints 14-1.
 
 
 
What's Next
 
Southern Wesleyan will remain on the road on February 7 as they travel to Wingate, NC to take on the Wingate Bulldogs at noon and two.  They will host their home opener on February 8 as they welcome the Anderson Trojans to Varsity Field.  The Warriors will then travel to Newberry College on February 16 to take on the Wolves at 2 and 4.
