Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan took down the Truett-McConnell Bears on Tuesday evening in a 19-3 final score.
The Warriors took 35 shots and had 29 shots on goal in their first victory of the season.
Tabitha Beecher led the team with 10 shots and eight shots on goal. Behind Beecher,
Jocelyn Cosgrove had seven shots with six being on goal. Beecher led the team with six goals. She was followed by Cosgrove and
Haylee Cureton with four goals each. Southern Wesleyan had eight assists with
Madison Brugger leading the team with four.
Southern Wesleyan had 30 ground balls during the game.
Jairy Sandoval led the team with seven ground balls while
Ansley Burroughs followed with six. The Warriors caused 16 turnovers.
Kaeleigh McDaniel played all sixty minutes in goal for the Warriors and had seven saves.

How It Happened
The Warriors took the first goal of the game as
Tabitha Beecher drove the ball into the back of the cage to put them ahead. The Bears countered with a shot by Hope Frady, but
Kaeleigh McDaniel saved the attack. Southern Wesleyan continued to attack the net as
Madison Brugger passed the ball over to
Haylee Cureton who shot the ball into the cage to extend the Warriors lead to 2-0. Back-to-back goals by
Jocelyn Cosgrove and Beecher gave the Warriors a 4-0. Brugger gave the ball over to
Kelsey Hawkins who put it into the cage to put the Warriors ahead by five with just over seven minutes left. Hope Frady scored her first goal for the Bears with just under three minutes in the quarter, but Southern Wesleyan was not deterred as
Haylee Cureton and
Jocelyn Cosgrove put them up 8-1 at the end of the first quarter.
Southern Wesleyan continued to challenge Truett-McConnell in the second quarter as
Tabitha Beecher attacked the net, but Madison Franklin saved the ball to prevent the Warriors from extending their lead further. The Bears fought back with a shot by Holly Foster, but
Kaeleigh McDaniel and the Warriors defense saved the attack. Beecher scored again for the Warriors to extend their lead.
Kelsey Hawkins and
Haylee Cureton scored once against to put the Warriors ahead by ten. Truett-McConnell scored their second goal of the game as Hope Frady put the ball into the cage.
The Warriors regained their ten goal advantage five minutes into the third quarter as
Tabitha Beecher collected a pass from
Haylee Cureton and put it into the cage. Beecher scored once again to give the Warriors a 13-2 goal advantage. It was short lived however as Hope Frady scored her third goal of the game for the Bears to put them back within ten goals. Back-to-back goals by
Jocelyn Cosgrove allowed Southern Wesleyan to take their lead to 15-3.
Southern Wesleyan continued to challenge as Asnley Burroughs took a shot on the goal, but Madison Franklin protected the cage from the attack. Truett-McConnell went on the attack as Kaitlyn Morgenroth and Sophie Beach took shots, but
Kaeleigh McDaniel would not let their attacks pay off.
Ansley Burroughs collected the ball and put it into the back of the cage to give the Warriors a 16-3 goal lead.
Madison Brugger and
Tricia Sands put the ball into the goal to give the Warriors a 19-3 goal victory over the Truett-McConnell Bears.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will travel to Newberry, SC on February 25 to take on the Newberry Wolves at 4 p.m. They will then welcome the Wilmington University Wildcats to Childs Field on February 28 at 6 p.m. The Warriors will open up Conference Carolinas action on March 5 as they host the Lees-McRae Bobcats at 1 p.m.
