Southern Wesleyan Takes Down Erskine in Thrilling Conclusion

Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan defeats the Erskine Flying Fleet in a 63-58 final score on Senior Night.
 
The Warriors shot 38.8% from the field in the victory over the Flying Fleet.  Nakia Hooks led the team with 14 points while Brittany Mack followed with nine.  Southern Wesleyan recorded 16 assists.  Brooke Henricks and Tristen Berry each had three assists.  Southern Wesleyan collected 48 rebounds with both Britanny Mack and Lonesha Lee each recording six.  Henricks led the team with four of the eight steals the Warriors had.

How It Happened
 
The Flying Fleet charged out of the gate as back-to-back threes by Shanece Mitchell and Anzya Cook to give them a 6-0 lead.  The Warriors countered with a layup by Nakia Hooks to put the Warriors within six of the Flying Fleet.  Southern Wesleyan chipped away at Erskine's lead on back-to-back three pointers by Caroline Reese and Allie Newberry to tie the game up 8-8.  The tie was short lived as the Flying Feet regained the lead, but a jump shot by Kayla Garrett allowed the Warriors to come within three of the Flying Fleet.
 
Erskine continued to push ahead as a three pointer by Chelsey Eison gave them a 24-13 point lead.  Brooke Henricks put the ball into the basket to take the Flying Fleet lead down to nine points.  Senior Sasha Schoenborn stepped beyond the arc and sunk a three point shot to make the score 27-18.  Southern Wesleyan would not relent their attacks and Brooke Henricks stole the ball away from Erskine and charged down the court to lay it into the basket to put the Warriors within five.  Southern Wesleyan tied the game up on a layup by Nikia Hooks.  Erskine led 33-28 at halftime.
 
Southern Wesleyan struck first in the third quarter as both Nakia Hooks and Brooke Henricks put up shots to put the Warriors within one of the Flying Fleet.  However, a three point shot by Megan Jones allowed the Flying Fleet to take a 38-32 point lead.  Erskine continued to push ahead as Anzya Cook stole the ball away and laid it up on a fast break to give them an eight point lead.  A three point shot by Sasha Schoenbron allowed the Warriors to come within seven of the Flying Fleet.
 
Layups by Kayla Garrett and Allie Newberry allowed the Warriors to come within four points of the Flying Fleet.  Carmen Chandler sunk a three point shot to put them ahead by seven points.  However, Southern Wesleyan continued to chip away at Erskine's lead as Brittany Mack put up a jump shot.  Mack stepped beyond the arc and fired off a three point shot to put the Warriors down 58-57 to the Flying Fleet.  A layup by Lonesha Lee allowed the Warriors to take a 61-58 point lead.  Southern Wesleyan went on to win the game in a 63-58 final.
 
 
 
What's Next
 
Southern Wesleyan will wrap up the regular season on February 24 as they travel to Belmont, NC to take on the Belmont Abbey Crusaders.
