Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan took down the Converse Valkyries on Saturday afternoon in a 57-44 final score.
The Warriors shot 29.9% from the field and were 35.3% from beyond the arc.
Brittany Mack led the team with 13 points. She was followed by
Kayla Garrett with 11 points. Southern Wesleyan had 10 assists in the game with
Tristen Berry leading the team with five.
Southern Wesleyan collected 52 rebounds in the victory.
Brittany Mack led the team with 12 rebounds to give her a double-double in the game. The Warriors had three blocks during the game. Southern Wesleyan had eight steals with
Tristen Berry recording four.

How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan took the first points of the game as
Brittany Mack laid the ball up in the paint to give them a 2-0 lead. The Warriors would not relent as
Nakia Hooks laid the ball up. Converse countered to put the ball up into the basket, but a three point shot by
Tristen Berry allowed the Warriors to maintain their lead. The Warriors shut down the Valkyries offense until just over two minutes left on the clock when a basket put Converse within seven. The Warriors went on to take a 17-3 point lead on a jump shot by
Kayla Garrett.
The Warriors extended their lead to fifteen points on a three point basket by
Shelby Glance. A jump shot by Jordan Brown and three point shot by Colbie Perry allowed the Valkyries to come within twelve points. With just under seven minutes left in the quarter,
Sasha Schoenborn fired off a shot from beyond the arc to put the Warriors lead to 25-10. Zahra Cross allowed the Valkyries to come within twelve. Howevers, free throws by
Kayla Garrett allowed the Warriors to lead 31-15 at halftime.
Converse took the first points of the third quarter on a jump shot by Jordan Brown, but a layup by
Lonesha Lee allowed the Warriors to maintain their sixteen point lead. Back-to-back layups by
Brooke Henricks and
Nakia Hooks pushed the Warriors ahead 37-20. Southern Wesleyan continued to shut down the Converse offense to keep them from cutting into the Warriors' lead.
The Valkyries came within thirteen on free throws by Keyshuna Fair. They continued to push ahead with baskets b Fair. However, three pointers by
Sasha Schoenborn and
Shelby Glance put the Warriors lead at 50-38. Converse made free throw baskets, but free throws by
Brittany Mack and
Tristen Berry allowed the Warriors to win the game 57-44.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will next travel to Banner Elk, NC on February 21 as they take on the Lees-McRae Bobcats. The Warriors will then host the Erskine Flying Fleet on February 22 at 5 p.m. They will then wrap up their regular season on February 24 as they travel to Belmont, NC to take on the Belmont Abbey Crusaders.
