Southern Wesleyan Pounces Down on Emmanuel in Conference Victory

Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan took down the Emmanuel Lions on Wednesday evening in a 68-64 final score.
 
The Warriors shot 47.3% from the field and were 40% from beyond the three point arc in the victory over the Lions.  Brittany Mack led the team with 18 points.  Behind her, Brooke Henricks collected 10 points.  Southern Wesleyan had 12 assists with both Mack and Loensha Lee recording three. 
 
Southern Wesleyan collected 30 rebounds.  Kayla Garrett led the team with six rebounds.  Both Brooke Henricks and Lonesha Lee had four rebounds in the game.  The Warriors had three blocks in the game.  Of the eight steals, both Henricks and Shelby Glance had two.

How It Happened
 
Brooke Henricks laid the ball up to give the Warriors the early 2-0 lead.  However, the Lions countered with a layup by Jeanetta Elder to tie the game up.  Baskets by Brittany Mack and Nakia Hooks allowed the Warriors to extend their lead to 6-4.  They continued to push ahead as Tristen Berry stepped beyond the arc and made a three point basket.  The Lions countered as a three pointer by Allison Smith gave Emmanuel a 17-12 point lead.  Emmanuel remained ahead as Smith made another three point shot.
 
Southern Wesleyan struck first in the second quarter as Brittany Mack fired off a three point shot to allow the Warriors to tie the game up at twenty-four points apiece.  Mack continued to attack the basket as she collected a pass from Nakia Hooks and laid it up to give the Warriors a two point lead.  Emmanuel would not let up as a layup by Makenzie Caldwell allowed them to regain the lead, but Nakia Hooks laid the ball up to give Southern Wesleyan back the lead.  The Warriors would not relent as they went on a ten point run to lead 43-33 at halftime.
 
Emmanuel laid the ball up to kick-off the third quarter and take a 37-43.  Back-to-back layups by Brittany Mack and Brooke Henricks allowed Southern Wesleyan to regain their ten point lead.  The Warriors continued to extend their lead further ahead with baskets by Henricks and Nakia Hooks.  The Lions countered as a layup by Jeanetta Elder put them back within ten points.
 
The Lions challenged in the final quarter of the game on a layup by Jazmin Allen, but a jump shot by Brittany Mack allowed the Warriors to maintain a five point lead.  The Lions would not go down quietly as Syndey Wyatt laid the ball up.  Southern Wesleyan would not back down as Nakia Hooks and Tristen Berry made layups to give the Warriors a two point advantage with just over  two minutes left to play.  Free throw baskets by Tristen Berry and Brooke Henricks allowed the Warriors to win the game 68-64.
 
 
 
What's Next
 
Southern Wesleyan will host the UNC Pembroke Braves on February 18 at 5 p.m.  They will then host the Converse Valkyries on February 19 at 2 p.m.  The Warriors will travel to Banner Elk, NC on February 21 to take on the Lees-McRae Bobcats.  Their final home game of the season will be on February 22 as they host the Erskine Flying Fleet.
