Coach Davis says…

"We really had our opportunities to close the gap tonight.  Our execution on the defensive end was better in the second half, and that gave us the opportunity to get close.  We just did not finish shots.  Proud of our effort, but we need to execute in tight situations like Emmanuel did.  We will learn from it."

How It Happened

The Warriors struck quickly as both Brooke Henricks and Brittany Mack laid up the ball to give Southern Wesleyan an early 4-0 point lead.  Jeanetta Elder countered with back-to-back layups to allow the Lions to tie the game back up.  However, a three pointer out of the hands of Mack put the Warriors back on top by three.  The Lions continued to fight back as a three from Abby Crawford tied the game up at seven.  Emmanuel pushed ahead with layups by Sydney Wyatt and Crawford.  However, a three point shot by Allie Newberry allowed the Warriors to stay within four.

Macy Passmore laid the ball up to extend the Lions lead to 18-12.  However, the Warriors chipped away at the Lions lead as Caroline Reese stepped beyond the arc to sink a three point shot.  A three pointer from Tristen Berry put the Warriors behind the Lions by one with just over seven minutes left in the half.  Southern Wesleyan took the lead as Allie Newberry sunk her second three point shot of the evening.  Emmanuel regained the lead as Addie Penick and Lizzie Teasley made jump shots.  Despite a layup by Alexis Glover, the Lions pushed ahead to lead 33-25 at halftime.

The Lions took a ten-point lead on a layup by Jeanetta Elder.  Southern Wesleyan countered as a layup by Brittany Mack allowed the Warriors to come to eight behind the Lions.  Shelby Glance made a jump shot.  However, a fast break lay-up by Jazmin Allen allowed the Lions to take a seven point lead.  Tristen Berry stepped beyond the arc with just under two minutes on the clock and made a three to put the Warriors down 46-40.

Southern Wesleyan continued to challenge as Tristen Berry collected a pass from Caroline Reese and made a jump shot.  However, a three pointer by Jazmin Allen put the Lions back ahead by ten with just under seven minutes left on the clock.  Brooke Henricks laid the ball up into the basket.  Back-to-back layups by Sydney Wyatt and Jeanetta Elder pushed the Lions lead to 63-49.  Despite a last second layup by Brittany Mack, the Lions won the game in a 68-51 final score.
