Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan dropped an intense match-up against the Emmanuel Lions on Wednesday evening in an 82-80 final score.
The Warriors shot 51.7% from the field and were 71.4% from the free throw line. Southern Wesleyan went on to shoot 50% from beyond the arc.
Tyrin Hollis and
Bryson Felder led the team with 17 points each. They were followed by
Marcus Long and
Jamal Edmonson with 13 points.
Wilvens Fleurizard recorded 10 points. The Warriors collected 20 assists with Hollis leading the team with nine. He was followed by Edmonson with five.
Southern Wesleyan pulled down 29 rebounds with
Bryson Felder leading the team with six. Griffen Effenberger,
Jamal Edmonson and
Tyrin Hollis all followed with five rebounds. The Warriors stole the ball 11 times with both Edmonson and
Marcus Long posting three steals on the evening.

How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan kicked off the game with a jump shot out of the hands of
Wilvens Fleurizard. However, Emmanuel quickly tied the game back up as Trell Washington dunked the ball into the basket. The Lions pushed ahead. However, a three point shot by
Marcus Long allowed the Warriors to stay within two points. A three point shot by Jeremiah Francis gave the Lions a 14-7 point lead.
Griffin Effenberger collected a pass from
Tyrin Hollis and stepped beyond the arc to make a three pointer to put the Warriors back within four points of the Lions. Back-to-back three point shots by
Bryson Felder and
Raevon Allen allowed the Warriors to take a 16-14 point lead. However, KJ Jones dunked the ball into the basket with ten minutes on the clock to tie the game back up. The tie was short lived as
Bryson Felder fired off a shot from beyond the arc. Southern Wesleyan would not relent as Felder sunk his third three pointer and
Tyrin Hollis laid the ball up into the basket. Hollis put up a jump shot to extend the Warriors lead to six points. However, Jasper Gibson sunk a three for the Lions to put them down by one point with just at two minutes left in the half. A last minute three by Gibson allowed the Lions to tie the game up 34-34 at halftime.
The Lions continued the offensive in the second half as Kendall Latney laid the ball up into the basket. However,
Marcus Long stepped beyond the arc and sunk a three pointer seconds later to put the Warriors back on top 37-36. Back-to-back layups by
Griffin Effenberger and
Wilvens Fleurizard allowed the Warriors to take a five point lead. Effenberger got the ball to
Jamal Edmonson who put up his first three pointer of the evening with just under sixteen minutes on the clock. The Lions continued to chip away at the lead as KJ Jones made free throws. The Warriors were not discouraged as
Bryson Felder once again sunk a shot from beyond the arc.
Wilvens Fleurizard stole the ball and raced down the court to lay the ball up to put Southern Wesleyan ahead by eleven. However, a layup and three point shot by Chris Dees put the Lions back within six points with just over twelve minutes on the clock. Tryin Hollis laid the ball up into the basket. A lay-up by Trell Washington allowed the Lions to tie the Warriors up at sixty-one points apiece. However, back-to-back lay-ups by
Jamal Edmonson and
Wilvens Fleurizard put Southern Wesleyan back ahead by four. The Lions would not relent as Jeremiah Francis made a three point shot.
Bryson Felder dunked the ball into the basket to keep the Warriors within three. Despite a late lay-up by
Marcus Long, the Warriors fell to the Lions in an 82-80 final score.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will remain at home on December 10 as they host the North Greenville Crusaders in Historic Tysinger Gymnasium at 4 p.m. They will then travel to Young Harris, GA on December 14 to take on the Young Harris Mountain Lions. The Warriors will host the Lander University Bearcats on December 19 at 4 p.m. before breaking for the Christmas season. Southern Wesleyan will return to the court on December 30 to host the Anderson Trojans at 1 p.m.
