Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan defeated the North Greenville Crusaders in a 79-59 final score on Saturday evening to pick up their second conference victory of the season.
The Warriors shot 52.5% from the field and were 48% from beyond the arc on Saturday.
Wilvens Fleurizard and
Jamal Edmonson led the team in scoring as they each collected 18 points. They were followed by
Bryson Felder with 12 points.
Tyrin Hollis recorded 11 assists.
Southern Wesleyan had 42 total rebounds during the game.
Jamal Edmonson led the team with 12, giving him a double-double. He was followed by
Wilvens Fleurizard with nine and
Marcus Long with six.
Bryson Felder had the lone block of the evening. The Warriors recorded four steals.

"Great defensive effort from our guys today. We beat a good NGU team that is a lot better than their record shows. You want to be trending upward the further on in the season that you get, and I think we are doing that. Lots of things to continue to work on, but overall really proud to get another conference win. Every win counts and matters. Looking forward to another great test on the road at Young Harris. They are a great team and very well coached. Hopefully we go in there and keep competing and working hard."
How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan took the first points of the game as
Marcus Long put up a jump shot. North Greenville quickly countered with a jump shot by Zak Perdew. The Crusaders pushed further ahead on a three point shot by John Haddock Rogers and a jumper by CJ Jamison. The Warriors were not discouraged as
Jamal Edmonson fired off a shot from beyond the arc to put them down six points to the visiting Crusaders.
Tyrin Hollis put up a three point shot, and then
Wilvens Fleurizard laid the ball up on a fast break. With ten minutes left in the half, Hollis put up another three to put the Warriors down one point. Southern Wesleyan continued to push as back-to-back layups by Fleurizard allowed the Warriors to take a 19-18 point lead.
Bryson Felder hit a three pointer and then a jump shot to extend the Warriors lead to four. North Greenville challenged back, but a three pointer by
Aria Eskandari pushed the Warriors lead to 31-22.
Tariq Shabazz put up a three point shot with just over three minutes on the clock. The Crusaders' came to within six as Caleb Williams and CJ Jamison laid the ball up into the basket. However, a last second layup by
Bryson Felder put the Warriors ahead 40-29 at halftime.
The Warriors kicked off the second half with a layup by
Jamal Edmonson to extend their lead to thirteen points. Zak Perdew hit a three for the Crusaders, but the Warriors would not relent as
Bryson Felder dunked the ball into the basket.
Wilvens Fleurizard collected a defensive rebound and rushed down the court on a fast break and laid the ball up to extend the Warriors lead to 46-32. Edmonson stepped beyond the arc and sunk a three pointer. John Haddock Rogers made back-to-back layups for the Crusaders to come to within fifteen, but the Warriors countered with a layup by
Jamal Edmonson.
Griffin Effenberger stole the ball away and quickly laid it up into the basket. Savion Brown made a three to put the Crusaders back within twelve.
Marcus Long collected a pass from
Tyrin Hollis and put up another three point shot to give Southern Wesleyan a 60-47 point lead with just under nine minutes left. Southern Wesleyan continued to sink the ball from beyond the arc as Long, Felder and Effenberger made back-to-back three point shots. They continued to distance themselves as
Wilvens Fleurizard laid the ball up into the basket to extend the Warriors' lead to twenty-two points. Southern Wesleyan went on to win the game in a 79-59 final score.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will travel to Young Harris, GA on December 14 to take on the Young Harris Mountain Lions at 7 p.m. They will then return to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium on December 19 to host the Lander Bearcats at 4 p.m. The Warriors will then enter the Christmas break period. They will return to the court on December 30 as they host the Anderson Trojans at 1 p.m.
