Warriors Unable to Pass Trojans in Non-Conference Action

Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Anderson Trojans in non-conference action on Friday afternoon in an 82-77 final score.

The Warriors shot 42% from the field and were 92.3% from the free throw line during the game.  Bryson Felder and Jamal Edmonson led the team with 23 points each.  They were followed by Marcus Long with 14 points.  The Warriors had 13 assists with Tyrin Hollis leading the team with four.  He was followed by Edmonson with three.

Southern Wesleyan collected 31 rebounds.  Tyrin Hollis led the team with nine.  Behind him, Bryson Felder had seven and Jamal Edmonson had six.  Bryson Felder went on to record two of the Warriors six blocks.  Griffin Effenberger led the team with two of the seven steals.

How It Happened

Anderson struck quickly as Mack Burgett laid the ball up into the basket.  However, Tyrin Hollis sent the ball under the basket to Jamal Edmonson who laid it up to tie the game up.  A three point shot by Garrett Denbow allowed the Trojans to regain the lead.  Southern Wesleyan fought back to within two points on a three pointer by Griffin Effenberger.  Layups by Tyrin Hollis and Bryson Fleder allowed the Warriors to tie the game up 9-9 with just under seventeen minutes on the clock.  Hollis hit a jump shot to give the Warriors the lead, but a layup by Mason Carver allowed the Trojans to tie the game back up.  Luke Denbow sunk a three pointer to push Anderson up by three, but the Warriors were not discouraged as a layup by Felder allowed them to stay within one.  Felder stepped beyond the arc and put up a three point shot to allow the Warriors to tie the Trojans at twenty-one points apiece.  Jacksen Greco made a three point shot to put the Trojans back on top.  Southern Wesleyan kept the game close as Raevon Allen collected a pass from Hollis and stepped beyond the arc to sink his first three of the day.  The Warriors continued to battle the Trojans to keep the game close as Jamal Edmonson hit a jump shot.  Griffin Effenberger laid the ball up into the basket to give the Warriors a two point lead with just over two minutes remaining in the half.  A last second layup by Mack Burget allowed Anderson to lead 38-34 at halftime.

Southern Wesleyan kicked off the second half with a layup by Jamal Edmonson.  However, Anderson countered as Garrett Denbow stepped beyond the arc to sink a three to push the Trojans ahead by five.  A jump shot by Bryson Felder put the Warriors down 41-38.  Felder then stole the ball away from the Trojans and drove it down the court on a fast break to lay it up into the basket.  Marcus Long laid the ball up to allow the Warriors to cut the Trojans' lead back down to one with just over fifteen minutes left on the clock.  Anderson continued to press as Luke Denbow and Garrett Denbow each put up jump shots.  However, the Warriors countered their attacks with a layup by Jamal Edmonson.  Long laid the ball into the basket and was fouled on the play to get the and one point.  A three point shot out of the hands of Bryson Felder allowed the Warriors to tie the game back up at 51-51.  The Trojans did not relent as layups by Mack Burgett and Mason Carver allowed them to extend their lead to six points.  Edmonson hit a three point shot and then Felder laid the ball up to keep the Warriors within six.  Marcus Long stole the ball away from the Trojans and passed it down the court to Bryson Felder who dunked it into the basket.  Despite a last second three by Long, the Trojans claimed an 82-77 victory over the Warriors.
 

 
 
What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will resume Conference Carolinas action on January 4 as they travel to Mount Olive, NC to take on the University of Mount Olive Trojans at 7 p.m.  They will return to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium on January 7 as they host the UNC Pembroke Braves.  Southern Wesleyan will then travel to Belmont, NC to take on the Belmont Abbey Crusaders on January 11.
