Three Post Double Digits as Warriors Soar Around Flying Fleet

Due West, SC – The Warriors and Head Coach Brian Hewitt picked up their first Conference Carolinas victory of the season on Saturday evening as they took down the Erskine Flying Fleet in a 79-64 final score.

Southern Wesleyan shot 45.5% in the win.  Jamal Edmonson led the Warriors with 16 points.  Edmonson was followed by Tyrin Hollis with 14 points and Bryson Felder with 10 points.  The Warriors picked up 16 assists with Tyrin Hollis leading the team with six.

The Warriors pulled down 38 rebounds.  Jamal Edmonson led the team with eight.  He was followed by Wilvens Fleurizard and Bryson Felder with seven rebounds each.  Southern Wesleyan stole the ball 10 times.  Tyrin Hollis led the team with three.

"It was a total team effort.  We concentrated on defense and it really payed off tonight.  Just really happy to get this first win for our guys.  They've been working really hard and with so many new guys, it just took time ot learn to trust each other and become a team.  We've got a long way to go, but we have steadily gotten better and better, and I'm extremely proud of each and every one of them."



 
How It Happened

Erskine struck quickly in the first half as Kingston Johnson put up a jump shot.  Southern Wesleyan countered to tie the game as Wilvens Fleurizard made free throws for the Warriors.  The Warriors continued to fight as Tyrin Hollis sent the ball beyond the arc to Marcus Long.  Long sunk a three to put the Warriors ahead 7-4.  Bryson Felder followed with a three point shot of his own to extend the Warriors lead to six points with just over thirteen minutes remaining in the half.  Fleurizard passed the ball down to Jamal Edmonson who put up a jump shot for the Warriors.  Back-to-back three point shots by Hollis and Felder put Southern Wesleyan's lead at 20-11.  The Warriors would not relent their attacks as Bryson Felder collected the ball and dunked it into the basket.  Aria Eskandari collected a pass from Hollis and stepped beyond the arc before sinking his first three point shot of the evening.  Jalen Robinson drove the ball to the basket to put the Flying Fleet back within ten, but the Warriors countered quickly as a jump shot by Tyrin Hollis allowed Southern Wesleyan to take a 27-13 point lead.  Erskine challenged back on a hook shot by Tavis Bridges.  However, Jamal Edmonson sunk a three pointer to allow the Warriors to maintain their fifteen point lead.  A last second layup by Edmonson allowed the Warriors to take 36-23 point lead at halftime.

Southern Wesleyan kicked off the second half with a layup by Marcus LongJamal Edmonson drove the ball to the net for a layup to extend the Warriors lead to 41-23.  Griffin Effenberger laid the ball up into the basket and then came back to the net seconds later as he sunk a three pointer to extend the Warriors lead to twenty-one points with just over seventeen minutes left in the second half.  Lanyc Shuler and Aisaiah Phillips each drove the ball to the net for layups to put the Flying Fleet back within twenty points.  Erskine continued to fight back as Tavis Bridges laid the ball up into the basket.  Bryson Felder and Wilvens Fleurizard each laid the ball up to push the Warriors lead to seventeen.  Lanyc Shuler stepped beyond the three point line to put the Flying Fleet down 63-48 with just over six minutes left.  Tyrin Hollis passed the ball over to Jamal Edmonson.  Edmonson laid the ball up into the basket to keep the Warriors lead at fifteen.  With under a minute on the clock, Aria Eskandari passed the ball over to Tariq Shabazz.  Shabazz put up a jump shot to put the Warriors ahead 72.58.  The Warriors went on to win the game in a 79-64 final score.
 
 
 
 
What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will return home on December 7 as they host the Emmanuel Lions at 7 p.m.  They will then welcome the North Greenville Crusaders to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium on December 10 at 4 p.m.  The Warriors will travel to Young Harris, GA on December 14 to take on the Young Harris Mountain Lions.
