Warriors Drop Non-Conference Game to Cobras

Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Coker Cobras in a 68-47 final score on Monday afternoon.

The Warriors shot 20.8% from the field and were 76.7% from the free throw line.  Brittany Mack led the team with 13 points.  She was followed by Alexis Glover with 10 points.  Mack recorded three of the five assists of the afternoon.  Brooke Henricks followed with the remaining two assists.

Southern Wesleyan collected 37 total rebounds with Brittany Mack leading the team with 10 to give her a double-double.  She was followed by both Shelby Glance and Alexis Glover with nine.  Glance posted four blocks in the game.  The Warriors stole the ball eight times.

How It Happened

Southern Wesleyan took the first points of the afternoon on free throws by Brooke Henricks.  Coker quickly tied the game up on a jump shot by Dasia Lambert.  They took a 4-2 point lead moments later as Kristynn Knight laid the ball up into the basket.  The Warriors fought back as Shelby Glance hit back-to-back jump shots.  A three pointer by Brittany Mack put the Warriors within four points of the Cobras.

Coker fought on as layups by Valicia Demeritte and Dasia Lambert allowed them to extend their lead to 21-13.  Shelby Glance and Allie Newberry made free throws for the Warriors.  However, a three pointer by Abigail Keesling pushed Coker's lead to 29-18.  The Cobras maintained their intensity as they took a 36-18 point lead going into halftime.

Mya Wasswa kicked off the third quarter for the Cobras with a fast break layup.  Coker continued to shut the Warriors down as layups by Dasia Lambert extended their lead to twenty-six points.  Allie Newberry and Alexis Glover each made free throws for the Warriors to put them down 49-21.  Tristen Berry laid the ball up into the basket.  However, layups by Valicia Demeritte extended the Cobras lead to 58-23.

The Warriors kicked off the final quarter with a three pointer by Brittany Mack.  Coker countered with a layup by Janae Whaley.  Southern Wesleyan challenged as Mack and Alexis Glover each laid the ball up to put them back within twenty-seven points of Coker.  Shelby Glance collected a pass from Mack and sunk a jump shot.  However, the Cobras went on to win the game in a 68-47 final score.


 
 
What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will return to the court on December 30 as they travel to Cullowhee, North Carolina to take on the Western Carolina Catamounts in exhibition play.  They will then travel to Mount Olive, North Carolina on January 4 to resume Conference Carolinas action and take on the University of Mount Olive Trojans at 5 p.m.  The Warriors will return to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium on January 7 to host the UNC Pembroke Braves at 2 p.m.
