Warriors Drop Non-Conference Game to Railsplitters

Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters in a 92-67 final score on Wednesday evening.

The Warriors shot 53.1% from the field and were 33.3% from the three point line.  Shelby Glance led the team with 22 points.  She was followed by Allie Newberry with 12 and Brittany Mack with 11.  Newberry led the team with seven of the 17 assists.  She was followed by Tristen Berry with four.

Southern Wesleyan picked up sixteen rebounds.  Brittany Mack led the team with four.  The Warriors stole the ball six times.  Tristen Berry led the team with two.

How It Happened

The Railsplitters took the first points of the game on a layup by Jordan Maney.  They extended their lead on a three pointer by Alexa Smiddy.  The Warriors countered on a layup by Brooke Henricks.  Alexis Schulz hit a three point shot to give Lincoln Memorial an eight point lead.  Southern Wesleyan chipped away at the lead as Shelby Glance put up a three point lead.  The Railsplitters would not relent, taking a twenty-one point lead on a layup by Lauren Flowers.  A last second jump shot by Glance put the Warriors down 28-11.

Lincoln Memorial kicked off the second quarter with a layup by Saquita Joyner.  A layup by Allie Newberry allowed the Warriors to come to within eighteen points of the Railsplitters.  The Railsplitters continued to distance themselves as Geovana Rios stole the ball and raced down the court to lay the ball up into the basket to give them a 36-14 point lead.  Shelby Glance stepped behind the arc and sunk another three pointer for the Warriors.  The Warriors trailed the Railsplitters 46-25 at halftime.

Saquita Joyner laid the ball up to give the Railsplitters a twenty-three point advantage.  However, the Warriors challenged back as Alexis Glover laid the ball up.  Southern Wesleyan continued to chip away at the Lincoln Memorial lead as Glover and Shelby Glance put up jump shot.  Tristen Berry stepped beyond the arc and sunk a three.  Alexis Glover stole the ball away and got it down to Allie Newberry who laid the ball up to put the Warriors down 57-43 with just under three minutes on the clock.  Lincoln Memorial countered with a layup by Alexis Schulz, but a three pointer by Brittany Mack allowed the Warriors to stay within fourteen.

The Railsplitters pushed further ahead in the fourth quarter as Alexa Smiddy laid the ball up into the basket.  They continued to distance themselves before Allie Newberry laid the ball up into the basket for the Warriors.  Newberry passed the ball down to Brittany Mack who laid it up in the paint.  Shelby Glance laid the ball up to put the Warriors down twenty five points with five minutes left.  The Railsplitters went on to take the game in a 92-67 final score.
 
 
 
What's Next

The Warriors will hit the road on December 17 to take on the Tusculum Pioneers at 2 p.m. in Greeneville, TN.  Southern Wesleyan will return home on December 19 to host the Coker Cobras at 2 p.m.  They will then enter the Christmas break.  Southern Wesleyan will return from the break with an exhibition road game against the Western Carolina Catamounts on December 30 at 2 p.m.  The Warriors will resume Conference Carolinas action on January 4 as they travel to Mount Olive, NC to take on the Trojans of the University of Mount Olive at 5 p.m.
