Warriors Drop Road Contest to Mountain Lions

Young Harris, GA – Southern Wesleyan dropped the non-conference game against the Young Harris Mountain Lions in an 85-58 final score on Wednesday evening.

The Warriors shot 33.3% from the field.  Tyrin Hollis and Marcus Long each led the Warriors with 11 points each.  They were followed by Wilvens Fleurizard with 10 points.  Southern Wesleyan collected six assists during the game.  Hollis led the team with two.

Southern Wesleyan picked up 34 rebounds.  Both Marcus Long and Jamal Edmonson led the team with seven.  They were followed by Wilvens Fleurizard and Griffin Effenberger with five.  Effenberger had two of the three blocks.  The Warriors had three steals.

How It Happened

The Mountain Lions attacked quickly as Josh Petteno put up a three point shot.  A jump shot by Lenny Pradia allowed Young Harris to extend their lead to five.  Southern Wesleyan countered with a layup by Wilvens FleurizardGriffin Effenberger laid the ball up into the basket to keep the Warriors within two.  However, the Mountain Lions would not relent their attacks as Nate Dunlop stepped beyond the arc and sunk a three.  Jump shots by Kennedy Willis and Dunlop extended the Mountain Lions lead to 15-8.  Griffin Effenberger sunk a three pointer to keep the Warriors within striking distance.  Willis and Christian Schach put up jump shots to extend the Mountain Lions lead to fourteen.  However, Tariq Shabazz put up a jump shot for the Warriors.  Young Harris led 41-21 at halftime.

Young Harris kicked off the second half with a dunk by Paul Hosey.  Southern Wesleyan fought back as Marcus Long and Griffin Effenberger each laid the ball up into the basket.  With just under sixteen minutes on the clock, Jamal Edmonson laid the ball up into the basket to put the Warriors down fourteen.  Tyrin Hollis stepped beyond the arc and sunk a three to cut the Mountain Lions lead down to 43-32.  Young Harris countered as a jump shot by Turahn Thompson put them back on top by thirteen.  However, a jumper by Marcus Long cut the Mountain Lions lead back down to ten points.  Christian Schach put up a three pointer.  Young Harris would not relent as three point shots by Josh Petteno and Thompson allowed the Mountain Lions to take a 69-47 point lead.  Aria Eskandari put up a jump shot to keep the Warriors within twenty-points.  Wilvens Fleurizard collected a rebound and passed it down the court to Bryson Felder, who dunked it into the basket to put the Warriors down 74-54.  However, the Mountain Lions went on to win the game in an 85-58 final score.
 
 



What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will return home to host the Lander Bearcats on December 19 at 4 p.m.  They will then enter the Christmas break season.  The Warriors will return after the holiday season to host the Anderson Trojans in Historic Tysinger Gymnasium on December 30.  They will then resume Conference Carolinas action on January 4 as they travel to Mount Olive, NC to take on the University of Mount Olive Trojans.
