Glance Posts Double-Double as Warriors Fall to Crusaders

Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell in Conference Carolinas action to the Belmont Abbey Crusaders on Wednesday evening in a 63-41 final score.

The Warriors shot 34% from the field against the Crusaders.  Shelby Glance led the Warriors on Wednesday evening as she scored 16 points.  She was followed by both Brooke Henricks and Tristen Berry with seven points.  Southern Wesleyan collected nine assists with Brittany Mack leading the team with four. 

Southern Wesleyan collected 26 rebounds in the game with Shelby Glance leading the team with 14 to give her a double-double in the game.  Both Brittany Mack and Alexis Glover followed with five rebounds.  Glance led the team with three blocks.  Brooke Henricks recorded three of the four steals.

How It Happened

The Crusaders took the lead quickly in the first quarter as Ricky Lesenyego laid the ball up into the basket.  However, the lead was short lived as Tristen Berry sent the ball down the Shelby Glance who put up a jump shot to tie the game up.  Glance stepped beyond the arc to sink a three to give the Warriors a one-point lead.  The Warriors continued to press as Berry laid the ball up into the basket to give them a 7-4 point lead.  Belmont Abbey challenged, but a layup by Brooke Henricks allowed the Warriors to extend their lead to five points with just over five minutes left in the quarter.  Cate Schieber put up a three point shot for the Crusaders to allow them to tie the game up 11-11.

Belmont Abbey kicked off the second quarter with a layup by Katie Bischoping to put the Crusaders ahead 16-11.  Southern Wesleyan came to within five points of Belmont Abbey as Brittany Mack passed the ball beyond the arc to Tristen Berry.  Berry put up a three to make the score 19-14.  The Warriors continued to chip away at the Crusaders lead as Brittany Mack and Brooke Henricks made back-to-back three point shots.  A jump shot by Shelby Glance allowed the Warriors to tie the game back up 24-24 with just over two minutes left in the quarter.  However, a last second three point shot by Cate Schieber gave the Crusaders a 27-24 point lead at the half.

Taylor Stelley and Katie Bischoping put up back-to-back jump shots to kick off the third quarter and extend Belmont Abbey's lead to 31-24.  The Crusaders pushed further ahead as a jump shot by Riley James gave them a fourteen-point advantage.  Alexis Glover laid the ball up into the basket to put the Warriors down 38-26.  A layup by Shelby Glance allowed the Warriors to come to within ten points, but a last second jumper by Taylor Stelley gave Belmont Abbey a 43-31 point lead to end the third quarter.

The Crusaders took a 45-31 point lead in the final quarter on a layup by Catherin Hendersott.  Shelby Glance collected a pass from Brittany Mack.  She stepped beyond the arc and made a three point shot for the Warriors.  A three by Taylor Stelley allowed the Crusaders to extend their lead to twenty-two points.  Southern Wesleyan fought back with a layup by Allie Newberry.  Despite a layup by Shelby Glance, the Warriors fell to the Crusaders 63-41.
 
 


 
What's Next

The Warriors will travel to Due West, SC on December 3 to take on the Erskine Flying Fleet at 2 p.m.  They will return to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium on December 7 as they host the Emmanuel Lions at 5 p.m.  Southern Wesleyan will remain at home on December 10 to host the North Greenville Crusaders.  Church Day will be held during the event.  The Warriors will host the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters on December 14.
