Four Post Double Digits as Warriors Fall to Crusaders

Central, SC – The Warriors fell to the Belmont Abbey Crusaders on Wednesday evening in an 83-67 final score.

Southern Wesleyan shot 48.1% from the field and were 69.2% from the free throw line on Wednesday.  Four Warriors posted double digits in scoring with Griffin Effenberger leading the team with 19 points.  Effenberger was followed by Marcus Long (16 points), Wilvens Fleurizard (12 points) and Jamal Edmonson (11 points).  Tyrin Hollis led the Warriors with four of the 11 assists.

The  Warriors picked up 30 rebounds during the game.  Wilvens Fleurizard led the team with eight.  Three players followed with five rebounds.  Jamal Edmonson had two blocks.  He was followed by Griffin Effenberger with one block.  Both Marcus Long and Raevon Allen recorded two steals.

How It Happened

Belmont Abbey took the first points of the game on a three point shot by Wade Jackson, but Jamal Edmonson laid the ball up seconds later to put the Warriors within one point of them.  Griffin Effenberger stepped beyond the arc and sunk his first three pointer of the evening to tie the game up 5-5.  The Warriors took the lead on a jump shot by Marcus Long.  Baskets by Wilvens Fleurizard extended the Warriors lead to two points.  However, the Crusaders countered quickly with a layup by Mason Taylor to tie the game up at eleven points apiece.  A fast break three point shot by Kyle Frazier put the Crusaders ahead by two points, but a layup by Tyrin Hollis allowed the Warriors to tie the game back up.  Once again the Crusaders took the lead, but the Warriors kept the game within seven on a jump shot by Griffin Effenberger.  Mario Lacy Jr dunked the ball into the basket.  However, back-to-back baskets by Effenberger and Jamal Edmonson cut the Crusaders lead down to six points.  Effenberger made a last second layup, but the Warriors trailed the Crusaders 40-33 at the half.

The Crusaders kicked off the second half with a layup by Mario Lacy Jr.  However, the Warriors countered with a layup out of the hands of Wilvens FleurizardMarcus Long and Griffin Effenberger each stepped beyond the arc to sink three point shots to put the Warriors within five points of the Crusaders.  A layup by Mario Lacy Jr allowed the Crusaders to take a 48-41 point lead.  Southern Wesleyan chipped away at Belmont Abbey's lead as Fleurizard laid the ball up into the basket.  Lacy and Charles Solomon laid the ball up into basket to push the Crusaders' lead to eight points.  Marcus Long sunk a three pointer with just over twelve minutes left on the clock to keep the Warriors within five points.  Belmont Abbey took an eight point lead on a layup by Lucas Saleh, but Southern Wesleyan would not relent as Griffin Effenberger made a three point basket.  Charles Solomon took the ball down the court and laid it up into the basket to give them a 72-60 point lead.  Despite free throws by Marcus Long, the Warriors fell to the Crusaders 83-67.
 


 
 
What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will travel to Due West, SC on December 3 to take on the Erskine Flying Fleet at 4 p.m.  They will then return to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium on December 7 to host the Emmanuel Lions at 7 p.m.  The Warriors will remain at home on December 10 to host the North Greenville Crusaders.
