Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Anderson Trojans on Saturday afternoon in an 83-59 final score.
The Warriors shot 39.3% from the field and were 52.6% from the free throw line in the loss.
Brittany Mack led the team with 18 points. She was followed by
Allie Newberry with 12 and
Shelby Glance with 10. Southern Wesleyan recorded seven assists.
The Warriors picked up 37 rebounds during the game. Both
Brittany Mack and
Alexis Glover led the team with nine rebounds. Glance led the team with two of the four blocks.
Brittany Mack picked up three steals with both
Allie Newberry and
Brooke Henricks following with solo steals.

"It was a disappointing finish for our team after competing for three quarters. We missed our opportunities offensively and hurt ourselves with the second chance points we gave Anderson. We said prior to the fourth that the difference would be on second chance opportunities."
How It Happened
Jalyn Spurlin quickly laid the ball up into the basket to give the Trojans an early 2-0 point lead. However, a jump shot by
Brittany Mack allowed the Warriors to tie the game up seconds later. Anderson would not relent as Brittney Stafford collected a pass from Diamond McDowell and stepped beyond the arc for a three to put the Trojans ahead 7-2. The Warriors chipped away at the Trojans lead as a three pointer by
Allie Newberry put them within two points of the Trojans.
Brooke Henricks got the ball over to
Shelby Glance. Glance stepped beyond the arc and sunk a three to put the Warriors ahead 10-9. A second three by Glance allowed the Warriors to extend their lead to four points. However, Anderson fought back as a layup by Diamond McDowell allowed the Trojans to regain the lead.
The Warriors kicked off the second quarter with a jump shot by
Alexis Glover to put them within three points of the Trojans. Alana Eakle laid the ball up into the basket, but the Warriors countered with a lay-up by
Brittany Mack to put the Warriors down 24-21. Anderson pushed ahead, but Southern Wesleyan countered their every attack as layups by Mack kept them within three points. Mack stepped beyond the arc and put the ball into the net to allow the Warriors to come to within one point of the Trojans.
Allie Newberry made back-to-back jump shots, However, the Trojans led 38-33 at the half.
A three point shot by Maggie Campbell allowed the Trojans to take a 41-33 point lead. The Warriors countered as
Brooke Henricks laid the ball up in the paint. Anderson would not relent, but
Allie Newberry put up a lay-up to keep the Warriors within six points. Southern Wesleyan put up back-to-back layups by
Alexis Glover and
Shelby Glance.
Brittany Mack laid the ball up in the paint to put the Warriors down 49-45. Diamond McDowell laid the ball up once again to put the Trojans ahead by seven, however the Warriors countered as
Tristen Berry fired off a shot from beyond the arc to put Southern Wesleyan down 55-51.
Anderson took a seven point lead on a jump shot by Jalyn Spurlin. The Trojans continued to push ahead as Britney Bailey laid the ball up in the paint. Anderson distanced themselves further before
Shelby Glance laid the ball into the basket. Britney Bailey stole the ball away from the Warriors and laid it up to give the Trojans a fourteen point lead. A layup by
Tristen Berry allowed the Warriors get back to within fifteen points of the Trojans. However, the Trojans won the game in an 83-59 final score.
What's Next
The Warriors will compete in Spartanburg, SC on November 28 as they take on the Wofford Terriers in exhibition action at 7 p.m. Southern Wesleyan will return home on November 30 to host the Belmont Abbey Crusaders at 5 p.m. They will then travel to Due West, SC on December 3 to take on the Erskine Flying Fleet.
