Southern Wesleyan Drops Contest to USC Aiken

Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the USC Aiken Pacers on Saturday evening in an 83-62 final score.

The Warriors shot 35.2% from the field and were 69.2% from the free throw line.  Tyrin Hollis led the team with 21 points.  He was followed by Jamal Edmonson and Bryson Felder with 10 points each.  The Warriors had seven assists.  They were led by Hollis and Marcus Long with two assists each.

Southern Wesleyan picked up 26 rebounds.  Jamal Edmonson and Marcus Long each had five rebounds during the game.  They were followed by Bryson Felder and Raevon Allen with three rebounds each.  The Warriors stole the ball three times.

How It Happened

Southern Wesleyan attacked the net early as Marcus Long put up a jump shot.  USC Aiken quickly countered as DeShawn Thomas laid the ball up into the net to tie the game up.  The Pacers pushed ahead as back-to-back three point baskets by Karon Boyd and Tehree Horn gave them an 8-2 point lead.  Griffin Effenberger stole the ball away from the Pacers and sent the ball down the court to Wilvens Fleurizard.  Fleurizard laid the ball up into the basket on the fast break to put the Warriors back within three points of the Pacers.  USC Aiken continued to distance themselves from Southern Wesleyan as a layup by Tyler Johnson gave them a ten point lead.  Tyrin Hollis stepped beyond the arc and sunk a three pointer to put the Warriors down 22-11 with just under ten minutes on the clock.  The Pacers pushed further ahead on three point shots by Christopher Brown.  Once again Hollis put up a three point shot for the Warriors.  However, the Pacers led 48-26 at halftime.

Jamal Edmonson kicked off the second half for the Warriors as he laid the ball up into the basket to put them within twenty points of the Pacers.  USC Aiken countered with a jump shot by Jameel Rideout, but another jumper by Edmonson kept the Warriors within twenty.  Tyler Johnson laid the ball up into the basket for the Pacers.  The Warriors pressed right back as Marcus Long put up a layup in the paint.  However, a fast break by Christopher Brown extended the Pacers lead to twenty-six with just over eleven minutes left on the clock.  The Warriors chipped away at the Pacers' lead as Bryson Felder collected a pass from Marcus Long.  Felder stepped behind the three point arc and sunk a three for Southern Wesleyan.  Tyrin Hollis sunk a three point shot to put the Warriors down by eighteen points.  Back-to-back three point shots by Aria Eskandari put the Warriors down 81-62.  However, the Pacers won the game in an 83-62 final score.
 
 

 
What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will next host the Belmont Abbey Crusaders on November 30 at 7 p.m.  They will then travel to Due West, SC on December 3 to take on the Erskine Flying Fleet.  The Warriors will return home on December 7 to host the Emmanuel Lions.  They will remain at home on December 10 as they welcome the North Greenville Crusaders to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium.
