Wilson, NC – Southern Wesleyan fell in their first Conference Carolinas match-up of the season against the Barton Bulldogs in an 111-77 final score.
The Warriors shot 44.1% from the field and were 31.8% from beyond the three point arc in the loss to the Bulldogs. Five Warriors posted double digits in scoring with
Jamal Edmonson leading the team with 18 points.
Marcus Long,
Tyrin Hollis and
Bryson Felder all recorded 12 points. They were followed by
Tariq Shabazz with 10 points. Southern Wesleyan picked up 18 assists. Hollis led the team with six assists and he was followed by
Griffin Effenberger with five assists.
Southern Wesleyan collected 38 total rebounds during the game. Sophomore
Marcus Long led the team with 10 rebounds to give him his first double-double of the season.
Jamal Edmonson and
Raevon Allen each had blocks. The Warriors collected 10 total steals with
Tyrin Hollis leading the team with three. Edmonson followed with two steals.

How It Happened
The Bulldogs attacked early as Trevor Spencer made a jump shot. They extended their lead to 7-0 before
Marcus Long laid the ball up into the basket to put the Warriors within five points. The Warriors fought back as
Tyrin Hollis stepped beyond the arc to sink a three point shot. Long put up his second jump shot to allow the Warriors to stay within two points of the Bulldogs. Barton pressed ahead as a driving layup by Miguel Shaw extended their lead to 13-7. Southern Wesleyan challenged once again as Hollis passed the ball under the net to
Wilvens Fleurizard who laid it up into the basket. A three point shot by Hollis put the Warriors back within three points of the Bulldogs. Barton would not relent as a layup by Donaven Hairston allowed them to extend their lead to twelve points.
Jamal Edmonson hit back-to-back layups to put them Warriors down 33-21. Marcus Boykin passed the ball beyond the arc to Trevon Spencer who put up a three pointer for the Bulldogs to extend their lead.
Bryson Felder stepped beyond the arc and fired off back-to-back three point shots for the Warriors. However, the Bulldogs pushed further ahead on a layup by Shawn Nelson. The Bulldogs led 59-35 at halftime.
The Bulldogs kicked off the second half with a three point shot by Miguel Shaw. Barton continued to push ahead as a dunk by Shaw put them on top by 31-points.
Jamal Edmonson and
Tyrin Hollis laid the ball up into the basket to put the Warriors down 71-42. Hollis stole the ball away from the Bulldogs and sent it down the court to
Wilvens Fleurizard who laid it up into the basket for the Warriors.
Bryson Felder stepped beyond the arc and sunk a three pointer to put the Warriors behind the Bulldogs 79-51. However, three point shots by Reese McDonald and Cameron Lawson allowed Barton to extend their lead to thirty-three points. Southern Wesleyan continued to push as Edmonson laid the ball up once more for the Warriors. Barton would not relent as Marcus Boyin put up a jump shot on a fast break for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs continued to push ahead, but a jump shot by
Josh Martin put the Warriors down 107-65.
Tariq Shabazz put up a jump shot to put the Warriors within forty of the Bulldogs.
Aria Eskandari collected a defensive rebound and sent the ball down the court to
Griffin Effenberger. Effenberger flipped the ball up to Shabazz and he laid the ball up into the basket with just over a minute to play to put the Warriors down 111-72. Despite a last second three point basket by Shabazz, the Warriors fell to the Bulldogs in an 111-77 final sore.
What's Next
The Warriors will return to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium on November 26 as they host the USC Aiken Pacers at 4 p.m. They will remain at home on November 30 to host the Belmont Abbey Crusaders. Southern Wesleyan will then travel to Due West, SC to take on the Erskine Flying Fleet at 4 p.m.
