How It Happened

The Warriors attacked first as Marcus Long got the ball over to Griffin Effenberger.  Effenberger sunk the ball from beyond the arc to give Southern Wesleyan the lead.  The Eagles countered with a three pointer by Luke Brenegan.  Carson-Newman continued to push ahead before Wilvens Fleurizard took the ball down the court on a fast break and laid it up into the basket.  However, a layup by Ren Byer allowed the Eagles to extend their lead to 18-6.  A three pointer by Tyrin Hollis allowed the Warriors to get back to within ten.  Carson-Newman would not relent as a three point basket by Caleb Bridgewater gave them a 25-point advantage.  With just over nine minutes left in the half, Bryson Felder stepped beyond the arc and sunk a three to put the Warriors down 36-14.  Marcus Long and Jamal Edmonson made back-to-back jump shots to put them back within twenty.  The Eagles extended their lead on a three pointer by John Zhao.  Carson-Newman led 61-27 at the half.

The Eagles kicked off the second half with a dunk by Bryant Thomas.  Marcus Long and Bryson Felder each laid the ball up into the basket to put the Warriors within thirty-eight points.  Monty Johal made a layup to extend the Eagles lead to 73-31.  However, Jamal Edmonson laid the ball up to put the Warriors within forty points.  The Eagles maintained their intensity as John Zhao sunk a three pointer.  Wilvens Fleurizard countered as he laid the ball up and was fouled in the process.  He went on to make his free throw as well.  Southern Wesleyan continued to fight as Jamal Edmonson laid the ball up into the basket.  Aria Eskandari and Tyrin Hollis each made layups for the Warriors.  Carson-Newman extended their lead on back-to-back layups by John Zhao and Caleb Bridgewater.  Bryson Felder sent the ball over to Aria Eskandari who stepped beyond the arc to sink a three point shot.  With just over thirty seconds on the clock, Felder put up a three point shot for the Warriors.  However, the Eagles won the game in an 109-58 final score.
