Bluefield, WV – Southern Wesleyan fell on the road to the Bluefield State Big Blue on Wednesday evening in a 71-39 final.
The Warriors shot 31.9% from the field against the Big Blue.
Allie Newberry led the team with 10 points. She was followed by
Brittany Mack with eight, and both
Shelby Glance and
Brooke Henricks with seven. Glance went on to recorded two of the seven assists. Southern Wesleyan picked up 33 rebounds with Glance leading the team with seven. Glance went on to record two of the four blocks. Mack led the team in steals with two.

"Bluefield State plays an up-tempo game on both ends of the court. At times we handled the speed, but our consistency of playing at a higher level must be improved on. We had moments of competing, but we never really settled in."
How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan took the first points of the game on a layup by
Allie Newberry. The Big Blue pressed on as a layup by Gabrielle Thomas allowed them to tie the game up. Bluefield State pushed ahead on a three pointer by Eriel West that allowed them to take a six point lead. With just over a minute on the clock,
Shelby Glance laid the ball up to keep the Warriors within seven.
The Warriors kicked off the second quarter with back-to-back jump shots by
Brittany Mack to cut the Big Blue's lead down to 16-9. Southern Wesleyan continued to threaten as
Brooke Henricks collected a pass from
Shelby Glance and stepped behind the arc to put down a three. Bluefield countered with layups by Rori Cox and Katrina Davis. A last second layup by
Alexis Glover put the Warriors down 28-18 at halftime.
Allie Newberry kicked off the third quarter with a layup to put the Warriors back within eight, but Bluefield State quickly countered with a three point shot by Essence Cowan. A layup by Azariah Binford allowed the Big Blue to extend their lead to thirteen points. Southern Wesleyan challenged with lay-ups by
Brooke Henricks and
Shelby Glance. However, Bluefield State extended their lead on a layup by Aerihna Afoa.
Bluefield State took the first point of the final quarter on a three pointer by Afoa. Southern Wesleyan countered with a layup by
Tristen Berry. The Big Blue continued to attack with a layup by Katrina Davis to extend their lead to 69-30. Despite layups by
Alexis Glover and
Allie Newberry, the Warriors fell in a 71-39 final score.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will remain on the road on November 19 as they travel to Gaffney, SC to take on the Limestone Saints. They will then open up Conference Carolinas action on November 22 as they travel to Wilson, NC to take on the Barton Bulldogs. The Warriors will host their home opener on November 26 as they welcome the Anderson Trojans to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium.
