How It Happened
Set One
Southern Wesleyan led off the first set with a kill by
Emily Ellis. However, the Bulldogs countered with a kill by Lily Haaga. Kills by
Gavirelle Elswick and
Amber Bass, and an ace by
Kali Letcher put the score at 4-4. Barton pulled ahead, but kills by
Abigail Gannaio and
Trinity Eichman kept the Warriors within two of the Bulldogs. Southern Wesleyan fought back as a kill by
Amber Bass allowed the Warriors to take a 12-11 point lead. The Bulldogs pushed ahead on kills by Lily Haaga, Sarah Burton and Lauryn Pitt to take a 19-13 point advantage. Despite kills by
Abigail Gannaio, the Bulldogs took the first set 25-19.
Set Two
Barton took the first point of the second set on a kill by Allison Gambill, however the Warriors tied the set back up on an assisted block by
Emily Ellis and
Gavirelle Elswick. The Bulldogs pushed ahead, but a kill by
Amber Bass allowed the Warriors to stay within two points of the Bulldogs. Barton took a five point lead on another kill by Gambill. Southern Wesleyan challenged back with a kill by
Emily Ellis. Despite kills by Elswick and Bass, Barton took the second set 25-16.
Set Three
The Bulldogs took the early lead, but a kill by
Gavirelle Elswick allowed the Warriors to tie the third set up. Southern Wesleyan took a 6-5 point lead on kills and an ace by
Amber Bass. The lead was short lived as Barton took a three point lead on kills by Sarah Burton and Allison Gambill, and an ace by Lilly Meyer. The Warriors were not discouraged as an ace by
Jarena Byers put them back ahead by two points. Kills by
Emily Ellis and an assisted block by
Gavirelle Elswick and Bass allowed the Warriors to push their lead to 15-12. The Bulldogs would not relent their attacks as they pushed ahead by one on a kill by Lily Haaga. Barton went on to win the final set 25-20.

Southern Wesleyan will return to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium on October 12 as they host the Emmanuel Lions at 6 p.m. The Warriors will travel to Tigerville, SC on October 14 to take the North Greenville Crusaders. They will then host the King Tornado on October 15 at 2 p.m.
