How It Happened
Set One
The Lions charged out of the first set as they took a 4-0 point lead before a kill by
Emily Ellis put the Warriors on the board. Despite a kill by
Gavirelle Elswick, Emmanuel continued to push ahead with kills by Gabi Reagan and Taylor Roberts.
Abigail Gannaio laid down back-to-back kills to put the Warriors within one point of the Lions. However, kills by Roberts and an ace by Asia Queen gave Emmanuel a 15-11 point lead. The Lions went on to take the first set 25-15.
Set Two
Emmanuel took the first point of the second set on a kill by Taylor Roberts. Southern Wesleyan challenged back as
Amber Bass put down three kills in a row to give the Warriors a 4-1 point advantage. An assisted block by
Emily Ellis and
Riley Young extended the Warriors lead to four points. The Lions fought back as a kill by Alaina Emminger put them within two of the Warriors. Emmanuel would not relent their attacks as Gabi Reagan put down a kill to put the Lions on top 9-8. The Lions extended their lead, but a kill by
Abigail Gannaio allowed the Warriors to stay within three points. Emmanuel claimed the second set in a 25-16 final.
Set Three
Kills by Taylor Roberts and Alaina Emminger put the Lions on top early 2-0. They continued to push ahead, but a kill by
Emily Ellis allowed Southern Wesleyan to come to 5-3 behind Emmanuel in the third set. The Lions would not relent as kills by Taylor Roberts and Jocelyn Martin allowed them to extend their lead to 11-5. Despite late kills by
Gavirelle Elswick and
Amber Bass, and a service ace by
Cara Martin, Southern Wesleyan dropped the final set 25-13.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will travel to Tigerville, SC on October 14 to take on the North Greenville Crusaders at 7 p.m. They will then host the King Tornado in Historic Tysinger Gymnasium on October 15 at 2 p.m. The Warriors will travel to Florence, SC on October 17 to take on the Francis Marion Patriots at 6 p.m. They will remain on the road on October 19 as they travel up to the mountains of Banner Elk, NC to take on the Lees-McRae Bobcats.
