How It Happened
Belmont Abbey attacked early as Gabriela Encisco and Paige D'Agostin took shots, but
Katelyn O'Neill and the Warriors back line challenged every attack to keep the Crusaders off the board. However, the Crusaders maintained the offensive as Sabrina Whitehouse passed the ball over to Anna Richard to score the first goal of the evening. Belmont Abbey would not relent as they scored twice more. Despite shots by
Madi Wurst and
Bella Hanzel, the Warriors trailed 3-0 at the half.
The Crusaders kicked off the second half with a goal by Goose Andrews. Southern Wesleyan challenged back as
Cayla Hughes drove the ball toward the net, but Brianna Stroka held her ground and collected the save to keep the Warriors off the board.
Brooke Cash took the ball up the field and sent it toward the net, but once again Stroka saved the attack. Goose Andrews attacked the goal again, but Amanda Madnin got in front of the attack to keep her for scoring. Belmont Abbey attacked once again, this time off the foot of Anna Schellpeper, to extend their lead to five. Southern Wesleyan pressured back as
Karla Gordon collected the ball on a break away and sent it to the net, but the Crusaders thwarted the attack. However, the Crusaders won the game in a 5-0 final score.
