How It Happened
Bob Jones attacked early as Gabriela Gonzalez took a shot on the goal, but
Amanda Magnin saved the attack from giving the Bruins the early lead. Southern Wesleyan quickly countered as
Bella Hanzel passed the ball up to
Abagail Kovalcik. Kovalcik collected the ball and drilled it into the net to put the Warriors on top 1-0 early on. The Warriors maintained their attacks as
Fianna Steves and
Natalie Thompson each took shots, but none of their shots found the back of the net. The Bruins were not discouraged as they scored their first goal of the game eighteen minutes in off the foot of Kayle Stevenson. The Warriors increased their intensity as
Bella Hanzel and
Bryanna Pickens each took shots, but the Bruins defense deterred each attack. Southern Wesleyan would not relent as
Adriana Ghersini collected the ball and put it into the net to put the Warriors back on top. The lead was short lived as Rylee Johnson scored for the Bruins to tie the game up 2-2 at the half.
Southern Wesleyan kicked off the second half strong as
Madi Wurst passed the ball up to
Bryanna Pickens. Pickens quickly put the ball into the net to give the Warriors the advantage just six seconds into the second half. Bob Jones quickly countered as a goal by Mia Marks tied the game back up 3-3. The Bruins continued to pepper the net with shots by Anna Grace Abrams, but
Amanda Magnin stayed strong in the net as she thwarted each attack. However, a foul in the box allowed Mia Marks to score a penalty kick goal to put Bob Jones ahead 4-3. Southern Wesleyan challenged as
Karla Gordon took a shot on the goal, but Esther Young would not all her attack to pay off. Despite shots by
Nadya Perez,
Bryanna Pickens and
Karla Gordon, the Bruins claimed a 4-3 final score victory.
