Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the UNC Pembroke Braves in a 90-86 final score on Saturday.
The Warriors shot 45.6% from the field and were 41.4% from beyond the arc in the loss to the Braves.
Demarcus Addie led the team with 26 points. Behind Addie,
Ta'Jay Dunlap collected 17 points and
Quinian Rieves had 16. Southern Wesleyan had 12 assists with Rieves leading the team with three.
Southern Wesleyan posted 29 rebounds with
Ta'Jay Dunlap,
Tranard Ferrell and
Quinian Rieves all recording five. The Warriors had three blocks during the game. Dunlap lead the team in steals as he collected three of the 10. He was followed by
Julian Cameron and
Davion Bradford with two steals.

How It Happened
UNC Pembroke charged out the gate taking a 12-0 point lead before
Demarcus Addie sunk a three point shot from beyond the arc. The Warriors continued to fight as another three from Addie allowed Southern Wesleyan to cut the Braves lead in half. The Braves would not make it easy for the Warriors as Jordan Ratliffe stepped beyond the arc and fired off a three to put them ahead 18-6. However, back-to-back three point baskets by
Julian Cameron and Addie allowed the Warriors to cut the Braves lead back down to ten points with just under ten minutes left in the first half.
Hunter Davis put up back-to-back layups to put the Warriors within five. The Warriors continued to chip away as a three pointer by Cameron put them within two of the Braves with just over seven minutes left in the half. UNC Pembroke pushed ahead, but
Ta'Jay Dunlap sunk a jump shot in the paint to keep the Warriors within two points of the Braves. Despite free throws by Dunlap and Bradford, the Warriors still trailed the Braves 31-39 at half.
The Braves kicked off the second half with a three pointer by Jordan Ratliffe to put UNC Pembroke ahead 42-31. They continued to push ahead as Deon Berrien dunked the ball into the basket. Southern Wesleyan countered with a three point shot by
Ta'Jay Dunlap. Back-to-back baskets by
Quinian Rieves allowed the Warriors to stay within fourteen, but Ratliffe broke away from the defense and laid the ball back up into the basket to put the Braves back on top 54-39. Southern Wesleyan would not go down quietly as Dunlap stepped beyond the arc and put down a three to put the Warriors back within ten. The Braves continued to push ahead, but the Warriors countered as
Demarcus Addie sunk back-to-back threes to put them with five points.
Quinian Rieves laid the ball up to put the Warriors within four with just over three minutes left in the second half. The Braves continued to push ahead with back-to-back baskets by Spencer Levi and Trenton McIntyre. Southern Wesleyan continued to challenge UNC Pembroke's attacks with a three point shot by
Davion Bradford. Despite a late three by
Quinian Rieves, the Warriors fell to the Braves in a 90-86 final.

The Warriors will travel to Franklin Springs, GA on January 12 as they take on the Emmanuel Lions at 7 p.m. They will remain on the road on January 15 as they travel to Florence, SC to take on the Francis Marion Patriots. Southern Wesleyan will return to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium on January 21 as they host the Chowan Hawks at 7:30 p.m. They will then host the University of Mount Olive Trojans on January 22 at 4 p.m.
