Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan took down the University of Mount Olive Trojans on Sunday afternoon in a 78-68 final score.
The Warriors shot 45.3% from the field and were 70% from the free throw line in the Sunday afternoon victory. Four Warriors posted double digits in the victory with
Hunter Davis leading the team with 20 points. Both
Ta'Jay Dunlap and
Demarcus Addie had 14 points and
Julian Cameron collected 12. Southern Wesleyan had seven assists with Dunlap recorded two of them.
Southern Wesleyan had 48 rebounds in the contest with
Hunter Davis leading the way with 11 to give him a double-double.
Tranard Ferrell followed with nine. The Warriors recorded four blocks in the game. Ferrell posted three while
Demarcus Addie had one.
Ta'Jay Dunlap led the team with four of the nine steals.

How It Happened
The Trojans took the first points of the game as Alan Treakle stepped beyond the three point arc to give Mount Olive a 3-0 point advantage. Southern Wesleyan countered seconds later as
Arusha Hunter passed the ball to
Brendan Hoban who fired off a three point shot to allow the Warriors to tie the game up. Mount Olive continued to press to take the lead but layups by
Tranard Ferrell and
Hunter Davis allowed Southern Wesleyan to keep the game tied up at seven points apiece. The Warriors countered the Trojans every attack, preventing Mount Olive from taking more than a two point advantage. The Trojans broke the two point advantage streak as a three point shot by Michael Brown put them ahead 18-15. However, a layup by
Ta'Jay Dunlap allowed the Warriors to tie the game back up 21-21 with just over five minutes left in the first half. Mount Olive upped the intensity to extend their lead to five points, but Davis laid the ball up into the basket to cut the Trojans lead down to three points. The Warriors would not relent as
Julian Cameron sunk back-to-back three point shots to put Southern Wesleyan ahead 31-30. Mount Olive took the lead, but a last second layup by
Hunter Davis allowed Southern Wesleyan to tie the game 33-33 at halftime.
The Warriors kicked off the second half with a free throw by
Tranard Ferrell to put them on top by one point, but the Trojans countered seconds later with a three pointer by Darius Spragley to give them a 36-34 point advantage.
Ta'Jay Dunlap stepped beyond the arc and fired off a three to put the Warriors back on top by one. However, Mount Olive increased the intensity going on a six-point run to give them a five point advantage with just under eighteen minutes left in the second half. The Warriors were not discouraged as
Julian Cameron and
Hunter Davis each got the ball in the net to put them back within one. Cameron passed the ball over to
Demarcus Addie who put down a three to put Southern Wesleyan back ahead by two points. Darius Spragley stole the ball away moments later and took it down the court for a layup to allow the Trojans to tie the game back up 46-46.
Hunter Davis collected a rebound off a three point attempt by
Demarcus Addie and tipped it into the basket to push the Warriors ahead 50-46 with just over thirteen minutes left to play. The Trojans continued to challenge, coming to within one on a layup by Trayvon Ferrell, but a three pointer by Addie allowed the Warriors to maintain a four point advantage. Mount Olive countered the Warriors attacks, but Southern Wesleyan would not let them get too close as a jump shot from
Davion Bradford extended the Warriors lead to 62-57. Michael Brown sunk a three point shot to put the Trojans back within one point. The Warriors would not back down as Davis sunk a jump shot from in the paint to put the Warriors back ahead by five. A last second dunk by
Demarcus Addie allowed the Warriors to win the game 78-68.
What's Next
The Warriors will next travel to Banner Elk, NC where they will take on the Lees-McRae Bobcats on January 26 at 7 p.m. They will then return to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium on January 29 to host the North Greenville Crusaders. Southern Wesleyan will remain at home on February 1 as they welcome the Bobcats of Lees-McRae to Central, SC for a 7:30 contest. The Warriors will then enter a two day road series on February 4-5 as they take on the Barton Bulldogs and University of Mount Olive Trojans.
