Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the North Greenville Crusaders on Saturday afternoon in a 67-63 final score.
The Warriors shot 29.7% from the field in the loss to the Crusaders.
Allie Newberry led the team with 15 points. Newberry was followed by
Lonesha Lee,
Brittany Mack and
Sasha Schoenborn with 11 points each. The Warriors collected 14 assists with both Mack and
Tristen Berry leading the team with four apiece.
Southern Wesleyan collected 46 rebounds with both
Brittany Mack and
Sasha Schoenborn recording double-doubles in the game. Mack led the team with 13 rebounds while Schoenborn followed with 10. Mack had the lone block of the afternoon for the Warriors. Southern Wesleyan stole the ball away 16 times with Mack leading the team with five.

How It Happened
North Greenville took the first point of the contest on a free throw by Haylee Luttrell, and then extended their lead to 3-0 on a layup by Luttrell. Southern Wesleyan cut their lead down to one point on a layup by
Brittany Mack off a fast break. The Crusaders continued to push ahead, but a jump shot by
Allie Newberry kept the Warriors within five. The Warriors chipped away at the Crusaders lead on baskets by
Brooke Henricks and
Lonesha Lee.
Sasha Schoenborn sunk a three point shot to kick off the second quarter and put the Warriors down 22-18. North Greenville pushed their lead back up to nine points on a layup by Haylee Luttrell.
Tristen Berry laid the ball up with five minutes left to allow the Warriors to get back within four. Southern Wesleyan continued to chip away as Schoenborn sunk a last minute three to put the Warriors down 37-35 at the half.
A layup by
Allie Newberry allowed the Warriors to tie the game up early in the third quarter. Jayda Glass sunk a basket to allow the Crusaders to get back on top by five, but the Warriors countered with a three by Newberry to put them back within two. A layup in the paint by Tolisha Walker allowed North Greenville to regain their seven point advantage. The Crusaders' continued to push ahead as Abi Oates sunk a three. However, late baskets by
Sasha Schoenborn allowed the Warriors to get back within eight with just under two minutes left.
North Greenville took the first points of the final quarter on a layup by Haylee Luttrell, but the Warriors countered with a layup by
Lonesha Lee to put Southern Wesleyan down 63-51 with just under nine minutes left. A layup by
Brittany Mack allowed the Warriors to come within seven. Southern Wesleyan would not let up as Lee and
Brooke Henricks sunk back-to-back shots to challenge the North Greenville lead. However, the Crusaders went on to win the game 67-63.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will remain at home on January 31 as they host the Belmont Abbey Crusaders at 6 p.m. They will the next host the Lees-McRae Bobcats on February 1 at 5:30 p.m. The Warriors will then enter a two game road series as they travel to Wilson, NC to take on the Barton Bulldogs on February 4 and then to Mount Olive, NC on February 5 to take on the University of Mount Olive Trojans. Southern Wesleyan will return home on February 8 to take on the King Tornado at 5:30 p.m.
