Greenville, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Bob Jones Bruins in non-conference play on Thursday evening in a 4-1 final.
The Warriors out shot the Bruins 28 to 17 in the loss. Of those 28 shots, 15 were on goal.
Joy Namyst led the team with eight shots and five shots on goal. She was followed by both
Heily Hernandez and
Bryanna Pickens with five shots. Pickens had four shots on goal. Namyst picked up the lone goal for the Warriors. Southern Wesleyan had nine corner kicks, with six coming in the second half.
Taylor Hanzel played all ninety minutes in goal, collecting eight saves in the process.

How It Happened
The Warriors challenged early on as with shots by both
Heily Hernandez and
Joy Namyst. They continued their attacks on the net with shots by
Bryanna Pickens,
Natalie Thompson and
Brooke Cash, but Rebekah Shoop saved the ball from the back of the net every time. Bob Jones countered with a shot by Brinkley Adams, but Southern Wesleyan's defense continued to discourage their attacks. The Bruins continued to push, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal off the foot of Mia Marks. Despite more attacks on the net by Pickens and Hernandez, Bob Jones led 1-0 at the half.
The Warriors jumped out early in the second with shots by
Heily Hernandez and
Cayla Hughes, but the Bruins defense continued to stand strong. Southern Wesleyan continued to challenge in the second half, as
Natalie Thompson crossed the ball over on a corner kick. Namyst collected the ball and sent a shot to the net, but it went high to keep the Warriors off the board. Back-to-back goals by Brinkley Adams allowed the Bruins to take a 3-0 goal lead. However, the Warriors got on the board with just over six minutes left in the second half as
Cayla Hughes crossed the ball over to
Joy Namyst. Namyst got the ball around the goalkeeper and put it into the back of the net to put the Warriors down 3-1. Mia Marks scored her second goal of the game to give the Bruins a 4-1 goal advantage. Despite late shots on goal by
Bryanna Pickens and Namyst, Bob Jones went on to win the game 4-1.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will return to Childs Field on October 6 as they welcome the King Tornado to Central, SC at 5 p.m. They will remain in Central, SC as they host the Converse Valkyries on October 9 for the 2021 Homecoming game and Senior Night. The Warriors will then travel to Tigerville, SC to take on the North Greenville Crusaders on October 12.
