How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan attacked early as both
Jose Rangel and
Noah Koch took shots on the goal, but Bradley Tart prevented the ball from entering the net. The Warriors maintained the pressure with a shot by
Diego Hernandez, but once again Tart and the Bruins kept Southern Wesleyan off the board. The Bruins countered with shots by Eli Solomon and Gasheed Lereche, but
Will Hughes and the defense blocked their shots. With four minutes left on the clock in the first half,
Hykeem Martin took a corner kick for the Warriors. Martin sent the ball in to the net and
Zachary Hurst headed it into the goal to put the Warriors on top 1-0.
The Warriors took the first shot off the cleat of Hurst, but Chris Monczewski defended the net to keep Southern Wesleyan from extended their lead. Bob Jones continued to pressure the Warriors with shots on goal by Victor Oladipo, but Hughes and Southern Wesleyan defense would not yield to the attacks. However, the Bruins attacks finally paid off as Gasheed Lareche put the ball into the back of the net to tie the game 1-1. Southern Wesleyan attempted to regain the lead with shots by
Diego Hernandez and
Pedro Fonseca. Despite a late shot on goal by
Hykeem Martin, the regular period of play ended in a 1-1 tie.
Bob Jones and Southern Wesleyan challenged each other in the first overtime period of play. The Bruins took shots by Charley Gualajara, but the Warriors continued to thwart their attacks. The attacks by the Bruins offense paid off as Eli Solomon got the ball around Southern Wesleyan's defense to give Bob Jones a 2-1 goal victory.
