How It Happened
Game One
Southern Wesleyan struck first in game one as
Delaney Byers hit a solo homerun to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. The Crusaders responded in the top of the third inning as Josie Reed's triple would score Brooklyn Stone followed by a single from Aschlyn Hutto to score Reed to give them a 2-1 advantage over the Warriors. In the bottom of the fourth inning,
Addi Johnson led off with a double down the left field line and advanced to third on a passed ball.
Ashton Martin then singled to right field to score Johnson and tie the game at 2-2. Byers followed Martin's single with a fielder's choice play that would allow her to take first base and then stole second base.
Emma Jo Wolfe would then draw a walk and
Addie Nugent's groundout would move Byers over to third. An error by North Greenville gave Byers the opportunity to score and Southern Wesleyan then took a 3-2 lead.Â
In the bottom of the fifth inning,
Lydia Clanton led off by reaching base on a Crusader error.
Megan New followed with a single and Clanton advanced to second before stealing third base. Johnson's sacrifice fly would then allow Clanton to score and the Warriors held a 4-2 lead going into the sixth inning. North Greenville tied the game at 4-4 on a two-run homerun by Carmen Silvester. A double brought in another run and then a Southern Wesleyan error allowed another run to score. The Crusaders would go on to hold the Warriors in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings to secure a 6-4 victory in game one.Â
