Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan split the last two games of the series against the Chowan Hawks on Saturday. The Warriors fell in game one 5-1 before winning game two in a walk-off fashion in an 8-5 final score.
The Warriors had four hits in the first game of the afternoon with
Parker Pillsbury delivering a home run.
Aaron Bennett pitched the first game of afternoon. Bennett pitched a complete game for the Warriors and struck out 11 batters.
The Warriors had nine hits in the second game of the day.
Parker Pillsbury doubled, while both
Josh Galloway and
Sawyer Price hit home runs. Galloway led the team with four RBIs while Price followed with three. Southern Wesleyan walked seven times and
Dawson Gilstrap had a stolen base.
TJ McEvilly started the game for Southern Wesleyan. McEvilly pitched 7.1 innings and struck out nine batters.
Vinny Adams and
Sean Sutay came in to pitch in relief. Sutay picked up the win as he closed out the game for the Warriors.

How It Happened
Game One
The Hawks took the early lead in the first game as they brought two runs in to score. Chowan then extended their lead to 3-0 in the top of the fifth inning.
The Warriors countered in the bottom of the fifth inning as
Parker Pillsbury drilled his second home run of the season over the right field wall to put the Warriors down 3-1.
Despite productive pitching by
Aaron Bennett, Chowan remained on the offensive, scoring two more runs in the top of the seventh to win the game 5-1.
Game Two
Chowan took the early lead as they brought two runs in to score in the top of the third inning. The Hawks continued to threaten, but
TJ McEvilly and the Warriors prevented them from extending their lead further to keep Southern Wesleyan in striking distance.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Warriors countered with runs of their own.
Tanner Glass led off the inning with a walk and then advanced to second as
Josh Galloway singled through the left side. With one out and two runners on base,
Sawyer Price hit his career first home run over the left field wall to put the Warriors on top 3-2.
Southern Wesleyan pushed their lead further ahead in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Parker Pillsbury led off with a double down the right field line and then advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by
Sawyer Price.
Tyler Rogers grounded out to first base to drive in Pillsbury and extend the Warriors lead to 4-2.
Chowan would not go down quietly as a single by Cross brought two runs in to tie the game. Then a throwing error on a failed pick-off attempt allowed Kinion to come in and score to put the Hawks on top 5-4.
In the last inning and trailing by one, the Warriors sent
Chance Fogel to the plate to pinch hit. Fogel led off with a single up the middle. An error by the pitcher off a sacrifice bunt by
DJ Ludwick allowed Fogel to advance to second and put Ludwick at first. With two on and no one out,
Juan Garcia laid down a bunt. The Hawks pitcher got to the ball, but not before all runners were safely aboard to load up the bases. With the bases loaded and one out,
Josh Galloway came to plate and drilled a home run over the center field wall for a walk-off grand slam to give the Warriors a 8-5 victory.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will next travel to Dahlonega, GA as they take on the University of North Georgia Nighthawks on April 6 at 5 p.m. The Warriors will remain on the road on April 9-10 as they travel to Wilson, NC to take on the Barton Bulldogs. They will then return to Dr. C Keith Connor Field on April 13 as they host the Anderson Trojans at 6 p.m.
