Mount Olive, NC – Southern Wesleyan finished in second place in the Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track and Field Championship as they claimed 156 total points, just two points shy of the University of Mount Olive champions. Not only did the Warriors finish as the runner-up, but they set several new school and conference records by the end of the championship.
After the meet, Conference Carolinas announced the Major Award winners for the Outdoor Track and Field season.
Jami Wright was named the Track Athlete of the Year and
Kelsie Smith was named the Field Athlete of the Year. Head Coach
Greg Thiel was also honored as the Women's Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year.

Track Results
100 Meters:
Kayla Achenbach,
Avrel Jean and
Miriam Ross all competed in the preliminaries of the 100 meters. Jean took 18
th with a time of 13.29 and Ross took 20
th with a time of 13.58. Achenbach's time of 12.19 put her in second and allowed her to qualify for the 100 meter finals. In the finals, Achenbach finished in second place with a time of 12.24 to allow her to earn all-conference honors.
200 Meters: Southern Wesleyan was led by
Jami Wright in the 200 meters as the senior finished with a time of 24.70 to put her in first place. Wright was followed by teammate
Kayla Achenbach in fourth with a time of 25.44.
Michele Beugre finished right on the heels of Achenbach as she took fifth with a time of 25.49.
400 Meters:
Jami Wright led the whole field in the finals of the 400 meter dash. Wright took first with a time of 55.22 to set a new conference record. She was followed by teammate
Michele Beugre and
Carmen DeVries. Beugre took third with a time of 57.29 and DeVries finished in sixth with a time of 59.68.
800 Meter Run: In the finals of the 800 meter run,
Lycia Zavala led the Warriors as she took third place with a time of 2:24.26. Zavala was followed by
Taylor Broadwell in fifth with a time of 2:24.99.
1500 Meter Run: Three Warriors qualified for the finals of the 1500 meter run after the preliminaries. In the finals,
Macey Morgan led the Warriors as she finished in fourth place with a time of 5:11.02. She was closely followed by teammate
Madison Lewellen who finished in fifth with a time of 5:13.32.
Sydney Palmer wrapped up the field for the Warriors as she took seventh with a time of 5:23.24.
5000 Meter Run: Senior
Kyra Hood led the Warriors in the 5000 meter run as she finished with a time of 19:46.27 to put her in fourth place.
100 Meter Hurdles:
Meshayla Maddox finished in seventh in the finals of the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.61.
400 Meter Hurdles: In the finals of the 400 meter hurdles,
Keyanna Williams took sixth with a time of 1:06.94.
3000 Meter Steeplechase:
Abbey Frock finished in third place in the 3000 meter steeplechase as she crossed the finish line with a time of 12:44.19.
4x100 Meter Relay: The team of
Lauryn Tate,
Michele Beugre,
Kayla Achenbach and
Jami Wright led the whole field in the 4x100 meter relay as they took first place with a time of 46.87.
4x400 Meter Relay: The Warriors led the whole field in the 4x400 meter relay as the team of
Lauryn Tate,

Carmen DeVries and
Jami Wright finished in first with a time of 3:53.12.

High Jump: The Warriors were led by
Paige Peterson in the high jump as her jump of 1.59 meters allowed her to finish in a tie for second place. She was followed by teammate
Haley McLaughlin in 10
th place with a height of 1.46 meters.
Pole Vault:
Haley McLaughlin set a new school record in the pole vault as she cleared a height of 3.35 meters to put her in fourth place.
Long Jump: Southern Wesleyan was led by
Carmen DeVries in the long jump as she jumped a distance of 5.26 meters to put her in third place. DeVries was followed by Blessing Laudermilich in eighth with a distance of 5.02 meters.
Triple Jump: In the triple jump, Blessing Laudermilich finished in second place as she jumped a distance of 11.29 meters.
Shot Put:
Kelsie Smith led the whole pack in the shot put as she claimed first place with a throw of 13.37 meters. Her throw not only earned her all-conference honors, but allowed her to set a new school record.
Hannah Hall followed in 11
th with a throw of 9.38 meters.
Discus: In the discus,
Kelsie Smith took third place with a throw of 41.15 meters to set a new school record. Smith was followed by
Hannah Hall in ninth with a throw of 30.58 meters.
Hammer Throw: Senior
Kelsie Smith set a new school record in the hammer throw as she threw a distance of 50.23 meters. Her throw not only allowed her to finish in second place, but set a new school record. She was followed by
Hannah Hall in seventh with a throw of 38.78 meters.
Javelin: Olivia Arredono took 11
th in the javelin in the conference championship with a throw of 23.84 meters.
