Murfreesboro, NC – Southern Wesleyan dropped the first round of pool play to the Chowan Hawks in a 2-0 final.
The Warriors recorded six shots, five on goal in the loss to the Hawks.
Joy Namyst led the team with two shots on goal. Namyst was followed by
Bryanna Pickens,
Heily Hernandez and Ashley Robson each with solo shots on goal.
Samantha Benner played all ninety minutes in goal for the Warriors, collecting 11 saves in the process.

How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan and Chowan battled it out in the start of the game with Sabrina Henderson taking the first shot. Sydney Henderson followed with a shot on goal, but
Samantha Benner saved the ball to keep Chowan off the board. Chowan stayed on the offensive with several players' shots, but Southern Wesleyan stayed strong on the defensive to thwart their attacks.
Joy Namyst took a shot on the goal for the Warriors, but the Hawks goalkeeper scooped it up before it met the net. Despite a strong defensive presence, Sabrina Henderson put the first goal of the game on the board for the Hawks to give them a 1-0 lead at half.
Southern Wesleyan charged out of the gate in the second half as Namyst took a shot, but it went wide right. Chowan continued to attack, but Southern Wesleyan blocked their shots. However, Regan Jackson took a shot off a rebound to extend the Hawks lead to 2-0. Benner continued to protect the net from Chowan from pushing their lead even further ahead.
Ashley Allen drilled a shot toward the goal, but Allison Traub jumped up to block the ball from going into the back corner.
Emily Corriher sent the ball over to
Heily Hernandez who sent the ball toward the goal, but the shot was thwarted to keep Chowan on top 2-0. With just under three minutes left to play,
Bryanna Pickens took a header shot off a corner kick, but Traub snagged the ball out of the air to keep the Warriors off the board and allow the Hawks to win the first game of pool play.

Southern Wesleyan will remain on the road for the next round of pool play as they travel to Wilson, NC to take on the Barton Bulldogs on April 21 at 1 p.m.
