Cleveland, TN – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Lee Flames on Saturday afternoon in a 17-7 final score.
The Warriors had 14 shots and 12 shots on goal in the loss to the Flames. Both
Amy Pfefferkorn and
Tabitha Beecher recorded four shots on goal. Beecher and
Kelsey Hawkins each had two goals in the game. Beecher, Pfefferkorn and
Betsy Bovee each had assists in the loss.
Southern Wesleyan recorded seven draw controls with
Jairy Sandoval recording five. Both Sandoval and
Kaeleigh McDaniel collected four ground balls. McDaniel caused three of the four turnovers. McDaniel played all sixty minutes in goal, collecting five saves.

How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan challenged early as
Jairy Sandoval collected the first draw of the game and
Amy Pfefferkorn fired a shot toward the age. However, Kaleigh Bernard would not let the Warriors take an early lead. The Flames countered seconds later as Avery Schenk took the first goal of the afternoon off a free position shot. They continued to push ahead with a goal by Shayna Ryan, but the Warriors countered as
Tabitha Beecher drilled the ball into the cage to cut the Flames lead in half. Southern Wesleyan continued to take shots on goal, but Lee thwarted each attack. Lee continued to push ahead, taking a 7-1 goal lead over the Warriors with just over twelve minutes left to play. Pfefferkorn scored the second goal of the game for Southern Wesleyan. Lee continued to push ahead, but Southern Wesleyan countered with a goal by
Jairy Sandoval to put the Warriors down 3-9 at the half.
Lee charged out of the gate in the second half with back-to-back goals by Ryan and Dariana Blanton to put them ahead 11-3. The Warriors were not discouraged as Beecher scored her second goal of the afternoon to put the Warriors within seven. However, the Flames continued to push further ahead as Blanton scored another goal to give them a ten goal lead over the Warriors. Southern Wesleyan continued to put up a fight as Beecher passed the ball to
Kelsey Hawkins, who put it into the back of the cage. With just over four minutes left, Hawkins scored her second goal of the game. A foul in the eight meter allowed
Betsy Bovee to take a free position. Bovee's shot met the back of the cage. However, the Warriors dropped the game 17-7.
