Due West, SC – Southern Wesleyan dropped the double header to the Erskine Flying Fleet in a pair of 5-6 final scores on Saturday afternoon
The Warriors had 11 hits in the first game of the afternoon.
Delaney Byers homered during the game. Two Warriors walked and Southern Wesleyan stole five bases.
Addie Nugent led the team with two stolen bases while
Savannah Huff,
Addi Johnson and
Haley Bertie each had one.
Delanie Laudenbacher started game one and collected three strikeouts.
Emma Collins came in to pitch in relief.
Southern Wesleyan collected eight hits in game two with
Megan New leading the team with two. The Warriors walked twice, and both
Addi Johnson and
Addie Nugent stole two bases.
Megan Vaughn started the second game of the afternoon and pitched two innings while striking out two batters

How It Happened
Game One
Southern Wesleyan took the early lead in the double header as
Delaney Byers hit a home run to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead.
In the top of the third inning, the Warriors pushed their lead further ahead.
Addie Nugent singled to the catcher and then stole second to get in scoring position. A single by
Haley Bertie to center field put runners on the corners. Bertie then stole second base. With one out and two runners in scoring position,
Savannah Huff singled to bring Nugent in to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead.
However, Erskine countered in the bottom of the fourth inning on a home run by Garren to bring three runs home.
The Flying Fleet's lead was short lived as the Warriors countered in the top of the fifth inning.
Addie Nugent led off with a walk and then stole second. A single to center field by
Haley Bertie advanced Nugent to third base. With runners on the corners,
Delaney Byers reached first on an error that allowed Nugent to come in to score. With the game tied and two runners on base,
Savannah Huff laid down a bunt single to load up the bases.
Addi Johnson singled to right field to allow Byers to come in to score to put the Warriors on top 4-3.
Erskine regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth, but Southern Wesleyan countered in the top of the seventh to tie it up. With one out,
Savannah Huff walked and then advanced to second on a single by
Megan New. Emma Collings singled to left field to load up the bases. With the bases full of Warriors,
Lydia Clanton was hit by a pitch to bring Huff in to tie the game.
The Flying Fleet went on to win the game in extra innings in a 6-5 final.
Game Two
Southern Wesleyan took the first runs of the game.
Delaney Byers led off with a walk and then advanced to second as
Savannah Huff reached first on an error.
Megan New then singled to load up the bases. A passed ball allowed Byers to come in. With two out and two runners in scoring position,
Lydia Clanton singled to right field to bring Huff home. A bunt single by
Addie Nugent allowed New to come home and give the Warriors a 3-0 lead.
Erskine began to chip away at the lead in the bottom of the second inning as a single by Brown allowed Belue to score. They came within one run of the Warriors in the bottom of the fourth inning to make the score 3-2. The Flying Fleet tied the game up 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Erskine continued to push ahead. Birch singled to allow two runs to come in to take a 5-3 run lead.
Southern Wesleyan tied the game back up in the top of the seventh inning.
Delaney Byers led off with a single and then a single by
Savannah Huff put two runners on. With two out,
Addi Johnson singled to bring Byers home. A passed ball allowed Huff to come home to tie the game 5-5.
With the game in extra innings, a passed ball allowed McInnis to score to give the Flying Fleet a 6-5 run victory.
